Multiple Chinese Research Ships Present in Indian Ocean, Including Yuan Wang 03, as India Prepares Missile Test

The presence of multiple Chinese "research" vessels in the Indian Ocean, including the satellite and missile tracking ship Yuan Wang 03, is generating concern in India. The arrival of these ships coincides with India's scheduled missile tests, heightening suspicions about China's motivations in the region.

Experts point out that the Yuan Wang class of vessels possesses advanced capabilities for tracking ballistic missile launches. Their presence near India during planned missile tests raises the possibility of China monitoring India's defence capabilities.

The recent issuance of several Indian notifications regarding missile launches further fuels speculation that China may be utilizing Yuan Wang 03 to gather critical intelligence data.

Adding to the concerns, at least four additional Chinese vessels with the designation of "research" are currently operating within the Indian Ocean. The lack of transparency from China regarding the missions of these vessels contributes to existing tensions between the two nations.

Analysts suggest that increased transparency on China's part concerning the purpose of its research vessels in the Indian Ocean would represent a significant step toward mitigating tensions and fostering trust within the region.

The Indian Ocean serves as a vital artery for global commerce and security, and heightened Chinese activity has the potential to disrupt the strategic balance of power in the Indo-Pacific.

Does India have any such Research vessel for international waters? If not, then why it's so difficult to make one?

India has it, INS dhruv. there are also the sandhayak class vessels, first one has been commissioned. rest will be delivered in next few years.

We have such vessels too. I recollect, more are on order.
Challenge is political appetite.

Like the chinese who have formed a habit of buzzing any non-chinese vessel in and around china sea with water canon, we can do the same for these "Research" spy vessels.

But then, the Chinese can do the same to our exploration vessels in and around Vietnam.

Its a game two can play, so best would be to wait it out

Taiwan too. Send Research Vessels to Taiwan under the pretext of civilian survey. If Chinese Warship follows it then India should do same in IOR. Enough is enough! India must do something!

Our Navy is over streched and underfunded. Navy can't handle it. Our Defence budget is not even increasing.

Chinese doing such activities from long time, the matter is that Indian Govt doing nothing except abort missile test program.

Why India is not sending its own fleet of survey vessels in south china see? what are they affraid off?

We do not have that capability and resources to do so. We have only 1 research vessel INS Dhruv and ships that can operate that long distance for long time deployments are very few. With very limited number to defend its own shores we can not risks sending them to South China Sea to showcase our powers.

It is time for an incident with one of these Chinese spy ships. If you do nothing, they will continue even harder.

Paisa bhai, it all goes to develop infrastructure including some capital military purchases. If economy is stronger there will be more money for military, otherwise Bharat will go bankrupt like p0rkistan.

Okay let us go to war with china, but be ready to pay higher taxes & do not cry ovwr increase in prices. If you are okay with that, let us begin. Hope you have seen the effects of war between ukraine-russia & israel-hamas. The weaker one has suffered the most. Also remember we do not have any godfather like western nations to sponsor the war.

Sirji, its not difficult at all.. most of the eqpt to be mounted would be imported anyway.. but actually its a 20 years project for us.

but they keep these ships near Indian shores, what is the use, we should send our carriers and destroyers along with US and Australian ships for freedom of Navigation sailing through South China sea every few days, eve tiny nations like Taiwan and Philippines have the balls and courage to send their ships to face the Chinese.

How are we overstretched, we don't sail past Indian EEZ, not even sailing the entire IOR, are we sailing to Atlantic or Pacific Oceans like US Navy to be over stretched, in-fact we are extremely under stretched, too many ships for so small EEZ.

India has a different naval doctrine where emphasis is on neighbourhood first. It is only very recently that we started doing anti piracy missions near african coast.

India should aggressively monitor and protect our EEZ and drive out all Chinese ships for even the slightest infringement or breaching our border. Also every Chinese ship in the Indian Ocean should be monitored very closely so they feel the pressure. We should also keep our weapons trained and fixed on them all of the time, while we can and as much as we can so their radar warning or threat alarm bells are always ringing. We should also use our EW and use every possible threat to disrupt their SATCOM, COMINT and general function as much as we can.

India has got to start dominating the Indian Ocean and to maintain and deploy as many ships as we can. We need to start using our offensive weapons subtly to project our power even more. What we should do is target one ship and use a underwater drone with explosives rigged to it and blow a large hole below their waterline so that it can slowly sink and they won't know what caused it as one explosion only isn't likely going to be seen as a attack.

Have a long term view in mind. China will get old beyond 2060. With fewer men, it would be time to break it and teach it a lesson. Increase the military capacity constantly till that time reaches.

We do that and they start applying pressure on our land borders and that's a much harder place to respond. They have significant advantage in capital and material that they can use to their advantage. We don't. Like someone suggested we can plug some of our naval assets with what the Americans have in Japan and prode them in SCS. Aside from that not behaving like an temperamental child like you suggest is important. Chinese have gone far with their civil military fusion and considering India has a trade deficit with them courtesy of our own neglect, juvenile idealism and incompetence it's impossible to drive off Chinese ships from our waters. But yes sending out a destroyer or atleast a frigate to escort them out of our waters would send a strong signal. We can't have them mapping the seabed at a greater detail.
