Bengaluru-based drone manufacturer NewSpace Research (NSRT) has revealed a significant redesign of its highly anticipated Abhimanyu Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV).

The upgraded design, drawing inspiration from the legendary warrior known for his bravery, features internal engines housed within trapezoidal side intakes, a departure from the previous external podded engine configuration. This change is expected to enhance performance and potentially bolster stealth capabilities.

A promotional video released last year showcased the Abhimanyu launching from an airbase and seamlessly integrating with a Manned Mothership, hinting at the potential for innovative collaborative combat strategies.

The video also highlighted the Abhimanyu's versatility, demonstrating four distinct configurations, each designed for a specific role:
  • Abhimanyu EW: An electronic warfare specialist designed to protect airbases by jamming enemy communications and radar systems.
  • Abhimanyu Kamikaze: A high-impact kinetic attack variant intended to eliminate hostile military aircraft, as depicted in the video engaging a Pakistan Air Force J-10CE.
  • Abhimanyu Decoy: A deception tool that mimics real aircraft to confuse enemy air defenses.
  • Abhimanyu ISR: An intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platform that provides crucial situational awareness by identifying and tracking potential threats.
While NSRT has not released detailed specifications, industry experts speculate that the internal engine configuration could improve the Abhimanyu's range, speed, and maneuverability. Additionally, the streamlined design may reduce its radar cross-section, making it more difficult to detect.

The Abhimanyu's potential to excel in diverse roles, from electronic warfare and intelligence gathering to kinetic attacks and decoy operations, positions it as a formidable asset in modern warfare. Its adaptability and potential for collaborative operations with manned aircraft could revolutionize aerial combat tactics.

As NewSpace Research continues to refine and develop the Abhimanyu UCAV, it is poised to become a significant player in the global drone market and a game-changer on the battlefield.
