In a devastating incident that has shaken the region, two soldiers and two civilian porters were killed on Thursday evening when terrorists attacked an Indian Army vehicle in the Botapathri area of Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir. This attack comes amidst a surge of violence in the Kashmir Valley, raising serious concerns about security.

The attack occurred just hours after terrorists shot and injured a laborer, identified as Pritam Singh from Uttar Pradesh, in the Batgund Tral area of Pulwama district. This marked the third attack on non-local laborers in Kashmir within the past week, fueling anxieties among migrant workers in the region.

Earlier in the day, political leaders condemned the recent spate of terror attacks in Kashmir, urging the newly formed government to take decisive action to ensure the safety and security of both locals and migrant workers. These concerns were echoed by former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who recently raised alarm bells about non-locals being pressured to leave Kashmir.

This latest attack comes on the heels of a deadly assault on October 20, where terrorists targeted a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal district, killing a doctor and six construction workers.

Coincidentally, the attack in Gulmarg coincided with newly-elected Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's visit to New Delhi to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During their meeting, Abdullah presented Modi with a resolution seeking the early restoration of statehood to the Union Territory and discussed critical issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir, including the escalating security situation and ongoing development projects.

This surge in violence underscores the challenges faced by the new government in Jammu and Kashmir as it strives to maintain peace and stability in the region.
