Recent reports indicate that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has received a new Turkish Next Generation Mobile Mission Control Centre (NG-MMCC).
This development brings attention to a crucial lesson from the 2025 conflict between India and Pakistan: modern aerial warfare poses a severe threat to mobile command-and-control systems.
Following the destruction of two NG-MMCC units at the Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi during the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Operation Sindoor airstrikes in May 2025, Turkey has stepped in to provide replacements.
While reports confirm the delivery, the exact number of replacement systems that have reached Pakistan remains unverified. The May 2025 strikes were conducted by India in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.
The value of the NG-MMCC extends far beyond the trucks that carry it. The platform was jointly created by Pakistan’s Centre of Artificial Intelligence and Computing (CENTAIC) and Turkish defence technology companies.
Official PAF information outlines the NG-MMCC as a highly secure, mobile command-and-control unit featuring encrypted communications, network resilience, and advanced artificial intelligence tools to assist in making quick decisions.
The primary purpose of this system is simple. If a permanent military command centre is attacked or loses connection, the mobile unit serves as a backup headquarters to manage air operations seamlessly. Consequently, these mobile platforms are extremely critical during severe military confrontations.
However, this importance also turns them into prime targets. The successful IAF strikes on the NG-MMCCs at Nur Khan were a major blow because these systems acted as the backup brain for Pakistan's aerial defence network.
By destroying mobile command nodes, an attacking force does not just eliminate fighter jets or radars; it breaks the critical communication chain that links military commanders, ground sensors, and combat aircraft.
Following the 2025 conflict, open-source intelligence confirmed that the advanced NG-MMCC was indeed one of the assets destroyed at Nur Khan. Independent defence experts also noted that these Turkish-designed units functioned as essential backup hubs for Pakistan’s air-defence grid.
Furthermore, recent footage from a PAF promotional video showcased vehicles closely matching the sophisticated command trucks lost at Nur Khan, proving that India successfully neutralised high-value command centres rather than standard transport trailers.
The arrival of the Turkish replacements is noteworthy on two fronts.
Firstly, it shows that with foreign help, Pakistan can swiftly rebuild critical military infrastructure destroyed in combat.
Secondly, it highlights the strong and growing defence partnership between Turkey and Pakistan. Turkey is no longer just selling standard weapons; its defence firms are deeply integrated into Pakistan’s naval ships, drone projects, and advanced communication networks.
Restoring the NG-MMCC is vital for Pakistan, especially since India possesses highly accurate, long-range missiles. While mobile command centres are designed to survive by moving around, simply being mobile is no longer enough.
The May 2025 airstrikes proved that these vehicles must also use camouflage, stay hidden from surveillance, and quickly change locations. If Indian intelligence and drones can spot a mobile command node, its ability to move becomes useless.
This situation leaves the PAF with a crucial choice: will they operate the new NG-MMCCs in the same way, or will they change their strategy?
To ensure these systems survive future attacks, Pakistan would need to scatter them across different locations rather than keeping them at well-known airbases.
They would also need multiple backup communication lines, ensuring that the destruction of one unit does not blind the entire air-defence system.
The inclusion of Artificial Intelligence in these centres is also a key factor. The AI tools are meant to process battlefield data quickly, giving commanders a faster and clearer picture of the war zone.
However, advanced software cannot protect the physical trucks from bombs. The computers, radar dishes, military personnel, and generators must remain in a physical location. In fact, the more technologically advanced these mobile centres become, the more attractive they are for Indian airstrikes.
For the Indian Air Force, the successful strike offers a major strategic lesson. Today’s aerial combat is focused on breaking the enemy's "kill chain" instead of just engaging in dogfights.
A fighter jet relies on a complex network of radars, airborne warning planes, and command centres to find and shoot targets. Striking any major link in this chain can effectively cripple the entire enemy operation.
