In a historic move for Indian defence exports, Armenia has procured three advanced variants of the indigenously developed Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) system. The deal, valued at approximately US$265 million (Rs 2,000 crore), marks the first international sale of the Pinaka system.
Satyanarayan Nandlal Nuwal, Chairman of Solar Industries India Limited, a key manufacturer of the Pinaka, confirmed the landmark deal. Armenia's order, placed last year, includes four Pinaka batteries alongside other defence equipment.
The Pinaka system comes in three primary variants:
- Pinaka Mk-I: The baseline model delivers reliable firepower with a range of 37.5 kilometers.
- Pinaka Mk-I Enhanced: This upgraded variant extends the range to 45 kilometers.
- Guided Pinaka: The most sophisticated version offers precision-guided strikes at a range of up to 75 kilometers.
