Bharat Forge Shifts Focus to Artillery Exports Amidst Indian Army Procurement Delays

Bharat Forge, a prominent Indian defense manufacturer, is intensifying its efforts to secure artillery export orders as delays in procurement by the Indian Army pose challenges to its domestic business.

The company, known for its diverse defense portfolio, is strategically pivoting towards the international market to sustain its growth trajectory.

Indian Army Procurement Delays Create Opportunities Abroad

While Bharat Forge remains committed to serving the Indian Armed Forces, recent delays in procurement decisions have prompted the company to explore alternative avenues for growth.

The global demand for artillery systems, driven by escalating geopolitical tensions and modernization initiatives, presents a lucrative opportunity for Bharat Forge to leverage its manufacturing capabilities and technological expertise.

Export-Oriented Strategy Takes Center Stage

With a comprehensive range of artillery platforms, including towed guns, mounted guns, and ultra-light howitzers, Bharat Forge is well-positioned to cater to the diverse needs of international customers. The company's emphasis on quality, innovation, and adherence to international standards further strengthens its appeal in the global market.

Recent developments, such as the $155.5 million export order for 155mm artillery guns secured by its subsidiary, Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited, underscore Bharat Forge's growing prominence in the global defense landscape. This landmark deal, the largest for an Indian artillery manufacturer, has not only boosted India's defense export figures but also validated Bharat Forge's capabilities in meeting international demands.

Challenges and Opportunities Ahead

While the export market offers immense potential, Bharat Forge faces stiff competition from established global players. However, the company's competitive pricing, coupled with its commitment to customer satisfaction and timely delivery, are expected to give it a significant edge.

Moreover, the Indian government's focus on promoting defense exports through initiatives like the "Make in India" campaign provides a conducive environment for companies like Bharat Forge to expand their global footprint.

A Strategic Shift for Sustained Growth

As the Indian Army reevaluates its procurement strategies, Bharat Forge's proactive approach in exploring export markets demonstrates its adaptability and resilience. By diversifying its customer base and reducing its reliance on domestic orders, the company is charting a course for sustained growth and long-term success.

In conclusion, Bharat Forge's intensified focus on artillery exports represents a strategic shift in response to the evolving dynamics of the Indian defense landscape. By capitalizing on global opportunities and leveraging its strengths, the company is poised to solidify its position as a key player in the international defense market.

Who cares for your question? it's already exported and earning foreign exchange for the country and might soon get more export orders
Talk about Army for which it was developed. Doesn’t meet their needs. Numbers had to be cut down due to massive price. We all care for our army. Maybe you don’t, but we Indians do.

You please target for export market.

Indian army will only buy if you can convince them that the artillery pieces are actually imported.

Probably try putting on a "Made in the USA" sticker. That might help with sales to our Import Army.
💯💯💯, or move the head office to a foreign country and change the name to EU forge or UK Forge or something and save a lot of fund for providing tips.

With Pakistan and China both way ahead in mounted wheeled tracked and lightweight howitzers Indian army is falling way behind and the babus of MOD, MOD finance , Pmo and finance ministry need to to cut short the vacillation and delayed decision making . files need to be thrown in the dustbin and a consolidated order for over 4000 wheeled , tracked and mounted lightweight guns placed with Bharat forge and TATAS and AWEIL . A yearly induction of 600 wheeled , tracked ,mounted , towed and lightweight guns is the need of the hour so as to complete the artillery modernization rearmament plan by 2028-30.

And where will the money come from? GoI is not giving them as much money as they ask for every year for at least last 20 years. And at least in the last 5 years, they are spending every penny. So there is no money anywhere. So they have to cut down the numbers.
Without going into the numbers, I'd certainly agree that considering India's threat perception, our defence allocation is absurdly inadequate.

But there is also little the government can do in this regard without upsetting budget deficit and thus the country's macroeconomics as a whole.

A rather large proportion of our budget needs to be allocated to subsidy which currently stands at 1.2 % of GDP for central government and wxtra for the subsidies provided by the states under their subjects. The actual subsidy may touch or even exceed the 1.9 % of GDP allocatio. That is marked for Defence expenditures.

No government can dare touch the subsidy because ours is a country of freeloaders who wouldn't bat an eyelid to throw current dispensation out of power if their beloved subsidy is taken away.

The army are definitely going to order the newly developed ATAGS, towed artillery gun and the mounted gun. All three will be from a indigenous company so there is no concern on that. Now they need to assess the amount of guns they need and the price negotiations which will take a while in order to get the best value for money.

The corrupt Chandigarh gang and some beareaucrats are delaying things...army wants artillery which can fire till the moon but will buy western ATAGS just having 27 km range...

Or maybe they can make what army wants, like private players are doing in armored vehicles and drones, and get quick and repeat orders? Ever thought of that?
Next army will ask for twin engine fighter jet that fires 152 mm rounds of all calibres

Indian Defence Ministry must support these ATAGS and dont leave it to the army to decide. The govt must support these indigenous products to support the local companies that spend huge amount of money on research and development.

Very unfortunate to know that, Indian army has still not concluded the order of ATAGs system from Bharat Forget. I don't know, what are they waiting for
