DRDO to Test Twin-Launcher Configuration and MTCR-Compliant Export Variant of Pralay Missile, Targeting Armenian Market

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is set to test an export variant of its Pralay tactical ballistic missile with a capped range of 290 km. This modification is designed to comply with the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) guidelines for non-member countries, facilitating India's growing defence export ambitions. Armenia has emerged as a potential customer for this advanced missile system.

The standard Pralay missile boasts a range of 150-500 km, making it a highly versatile weapon for tactical battlefield applications. However, to adhere to international guidelines and enable exports to non-MTCR countries, the missile's range will be capped at 290 km. This adjustment ensures compliance with global non-proliferation norms while retaining the missile's operational effectiveness.

Armenia, which has been actively modernizing its defence capabilities, has reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the Pralay missile system. The missile's ability to deliver high-precision strikes makes it an attractive option for countries seeking advanced and reliable tactical missile systems. Armenia's interest reflects the growing global recognition of India's indigenous defence technologies.

In addition to the range modification, DRDO is preparing to test a twin-launcher configuration for the Pralay missile system. This upgrade allows a single launcher to carry and deploy two Pralay missiles, significantly enhancing operational flexibility and reducing reload times during combat. Initial tests of the Pralay launcher involved only a single missile; the upcoming tests with the twin-launcher setup are expected to validate the system's enhanced capabilities.

The twin-launcher configuration is likely to make the Pralay system even more appealing to export customers, as it offers greater firepower and efficiency in tactical operations. The ability to deploy two missiles in quick succession provides a significant advantage in high-intensity battlefield scenarios.

The Pralay missile, designed for high precision and rapid deployment, is a key component of India's growing arsenal of tactical strike systems. It can carry a variety of warheads, making it adaptable for different mission profiles. The missile's solid-propellant system ensures quick readiness, and its manoeuvrability makes it difficult to intercept.

While the capped-range variant is being developed for export, the domestic version of Pralay, with its full range of up to 500 km, remains a critical asset for the Indian armed forces. It enhances India's capability to deliver precise strikes against strategic targets, particularly in contested border regions.

There are many countries in the Indo-Pacific which would be interested.
Off course, for use in peaceful purposes only.
Need to proliferate it to Vietnam Phillipines Indonesia. But I suspect there would be many elements in those nations ready to sell secrets of this weapon to MSS ISI elements. So we need to also degrade some capabilities of guidance electronics, materials, motor etc and keep the best version for ourselves.

Instead of two at a time, better to work upon pinaka like launcher to launch one pralay at a time wtih 290km cap.
This will not only helpful for exports but also makes our technology ready for longer range missile launchign using pinaka like approach.

MRL is different from a battlefield support missile.

Peaceful means when someone slaps you in one cheek, show the other cheek to get hit again This is what our father of nation taught & carried on by the Gandhi dynasty

India should definitely sell the missile when it enters production as it will be more modern and difficult to be intercepted by a SAM.

India also needs to keep a large stockpile for its own rocket force and we should consider making small nuclear tactical warheads. Also we can put restrictions on the range but we can quietly allow it to use it’s maximum range if they keep it classified.

Especially Armenia, when it used against the Azerbaizan will know the impact (Battle Tested) of pralay which will likely to b Mahapralay.

Don't know about other's but this will surely be participating in the next armenia vs Azerbaijan conflict if any happens so.

Great, let’s us make our Short Range Ballistic Missiles in a flatter trajectory, hybrid - powered, stealth shaped for IR and Radar, manourvarable, and with MIRVs (with decoys and at least 2-3 warheads) so they can evade active enemy defense, then produce them in large numbers and sell them to friendly countries especially in ASEAN and maybe Taiwan on reciprocity of Chinese sales to Pakistan! Tell China arming Pakistan is a core issue for Bharat and thus a red line! China only respects power!!

This is the same missile someone left on the port of either S Korea or Vietnam after a defense exhibition couple of years ago. It took almost a month to get it back.

What could possibly be a peaceful purpose of a ballistic missile?
When you have superior firepower over your enemies or have capability to damage them severely, it ensures peace as they are least likely to engage and this whole thing is called deterrence. So Nuclear weapons, aircraft carrier, bombers, missiles and fighter jets ensures peace this way 🕊️ ✌🏻

No never, when they will use it to stike deep in the enemy territory we will be cooked with economic sanctions and things will get difficult to export other weapon systems as well.

Good, as this missiles get export succes our manufacturing facility will get finer and capacity will increase as well . Being better at mass production in such weapons can help us against enemy like China whose strength lies in mass production and achieving numerical superiority.

They aren’t going to sanction us for selling a missile with a longer range as it would affect their own businesses and supply chains along with a key relationship that works against China's growing power and influence in the region.

Also they wouldn’t actually find out the true range as we can keep its longer range capability classified with that country it’s in. This will also increase our exports.
