Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), a leading Indian shipyard, has achieved a significant milestone with the commissioning of a new state-of-the-art test bed for marine diesel engines at its Diesel Engine Plant (DEP) in Ranchi.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd.), CMD, GRSE, and DIG Subrato Ghosh, ICG (Retd.), Director (Personnel), GRSE, along with other senior officials.
This advanced facility is equipped with an indigenously built Water Brake Dynamometer with a rated capacity of 6.7 MW, enabling DEP to conduct full power trials of two diesel engines simultaneously. This significantly enhances GRSE's testing capabilities and its ability to produce high-quality engines for the Indian Navy.
The new test bed is particularly crucial for the Indian Navy's 'Next Generation Waterjet FAC Project.' GRSE has partnered with Rolls Royce Solutions GmbH, Germany, to indigenously produce MTU 16V400M73L main propulsion diesel engines under license.
These engines will power the Indian Navy's future fleet of fast attack craft (FAC). The test bed will play a vital role in ensuring the quality and reliability of these engines, contributing to the project's success and the Indian Navy's modernization efforts.
By establishing advanced testing facilities and collaborating with international partners for technology transfer, GRSE is strengthening India's indigenous shipbuilding capabilities and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. This not only enhances national security but also fosters technological advancement and economic growth within the country.
