IAF's Initial Preference for Tejas MkII was Eurojet EJ200 not F414


IAF Tejas MkII fighter jet program has seen an intriguing evolution in its engine selection. While the American-made GE F414IN6 engine is now confirmed to power this indigenous aircraft, it wasn't always the IAF's preferred choice.

In the early stages of the Tejas MkII's development, around 2010, the IAF reportedly expressed a strong preference for the European Eurojet EJ200 engine, the same powerplant that propels the formidable Eurofighter Typhoon. This inclination stemmed from a strategic desire to diversify the IAF's engine suppliers and reduce its over-dependence on a single foreign entity for such a critical component.

However, the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), the organization responsible for overseeing the Tejas program, ultimately made a different choice. The GE F414IN6 was selected as the Tejas MkII's engine, primarily due to its cost-effectiveness compared to the EJ200.

While the Tejas MkII is now set to fly with the GE F414IN6, the IAF's initial interest in the EJ200 serves as a reminder of the importance of considering multiple options and weighing various factors in defense acquisitions.
 
Both offer are sanction prone , India wanted ToT on who ever win the race , Eurojet was Multinational & GE is single Nation Lowest bidder factor makes GE winner .Eurojet too can offer 98kN . Only solution is Atmanirbhar it is more than 3 to 4 years Foreign partner search is on . But Not Finalise.if In 2010 if India have started development of 110kN engine with foreign partner Engine would b ready now.
 
What the h*ck did I just read!? They wanted dependence on multiple nations rather than a single one and acknowledging the fact that both engines are sanction prone ; what the h*ck was IAF smoking while favouring EJ200 over F414........if anything M88 Enhanced thrust would have been the best option 'cause there would be no risk of sanctions.

agar dusara option dhundh rahe ho to france hi ek matra desh bacha hai jo amrica ke dabav mai aaye bina engine deta rahega..angrejo ka bhi koe bhaosha nahi...!
 
If India and IAF is going to worry about a single country putting sanctions on GE F414, then just think harder and see how many European countries are involved in EJ2000 engine.
Too many and all of them can selectively put sanctions whenever they feel like without any hesitation.

If Islamic Jihadi people fills the suitcases with cash, then they can get sanctions against India on any flimsy causes.

Get real and stick to GE F414 with 80% TOT.
India can parlay this 80% TOT manufacturing into manufacturing its own Kaveri and its variants in world class production facilities.

EJ-200 is an excellent example of Bhanumati ka kunbaa. The engine is an upgrade of a British design which started life as a XG-40 prototype developed by Rolls Royce.

Delaing with the consortium would indeed have been a pain in the rearside.

IAF has many a times proven they are not the smartest spoon in the dumpster.

This may just be an example of one of their many big brain moments.

Nobody accused the IAF, MoD, nor the PSU controlled Indian defence industry of being proficient in concepts such as supply chain management, logistics and material management in general.

Wonder why France didn’t instal Enhanced M88 even in Rafale F4.2.
 
We should ink deal with Saffran to jointly make a 90 kn -98 kn engine for Indian fighter program as second option ! Or also make GE-404 enhanced engine (90KN ) for our Tejas-1A here in India along with GE-414 engines.

British dumped our Jaguar engine upgrade program and made it a single vendor situation and then Honeywell demanded double the price of GE F404 engine.
Europeans are very unreliable and cutthroat type of guys.

Not just Hydearbadis, Hindus as a whole are bunch of lazy hillbillys. They want M0di to do everything to benifit them for 5 years, but when its their turn to return favour in the general elections, they can't be expected to spare just half day's of time and effort to vote for him.

Hindus don't deserve a M0di, they deserve the likes of Rawool baba, Akal-less, and Laloos only.

Cause they simply don't need it.....installing new engine will cause validation and optimisation which is not required for Rafales currently.

When you have a superb jet that can super cruise and power all the electronics you want, why would you upgrade and waste fuel? Mileage is important baba.

BERY BERY PHUNNY DUDE... Rocket engines are TOTALLY COMPLETELY different from fighter jet engines dude... Rocket engines uses liquid or solid Hydrogen and Nitrogen to create the blasts with oxygen mixtures for rocket to move upwards. Fighter jet engines using aviation fuel which is similar to kerosene for igniting mixture of air and fuel in chamber. Rocket engines will start burn and stop after fuel exhausted completely.. Fighter jet engines must work constantly with varying degrees of burning thrusts continuously for several hours sometimes..
 
EJ200 engines were approximately 1.5 times the costs for GEF404 engines, at the time of negotiations. EJ200 engines have a smaller diameter and so fittment problems will be there for larger hole in Tejas backside. ONLY GE-F404-F414 and M88-Cauvery engines fits Tejas engine hole perfectly!

Surely disgusting and same things happening in USA too.
In USA, they even have 2 to 4 weeks early voting from 8 AM to 5 PM but voter participation is hardly goes beyond 50 to 60%. Lazy bums and then they make big hues and cries about frauds in elections.

I heard from Muslim ladies that getting rid of 3 Talaqs is really good for them in India as they get some compensations in divorces to take care of themselves and their kids.

India surely needs to have a UCC so all laws are applied equally among Hindu and Muslim ladies gets same share like Muslim men.
 
India should start collaboration with Eurojet instead from the beginning when Tejas design is still premature.... Now after 2 decades we are still slow like a snake of procurement of GE engine... If we already sign a dead of making 98kn type of Eurojet engine we might already manufacturing and developing more than 60~80% of engine parts if we started earlier instead
