India has achieved a significant milestone in its defence export endeavors with the delivery of the first batch of Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launchers (MRBLs) to Armenia earlier this month. This delivery fulfills part of a contract signed between the two nations in 2022, marking a new chapter in their defence partnership and underscoring India's growing prominence in the global arms market.
Developed by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and produced by private sector companies in collaboration with state-run Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), the Pinaka MRBL is a highly versatile, indigenous rocket artillery system. Renowned for its rapid deployment capabilities and high-volume firepower, the Pinaka system has proven its effectiveness in various operations within the Indian Army.
The Armenia-India defence contract highlights Armenia's increasing reliance on Indian-made military systems to strengthen its armed forces. The Pinaka systems are expected to play a crucial role in Armenia's defence strategy, providing an enhanced capability to neutralize enemy positions, fortifications, and supply chains with concentrated rocket fire.
This export deal is a significant achievement for India's burgeoning defence manufacturing sector. It aligns with the "Make in India" initiatives, which aim to position India as a global hub for defence production and exports.
This delivery follows reports of Armenia acquiring Indian-made Akash missile systems earlier this month, further indicating a growing trend of Armenia incorporating Indian defense technology. These developments signify a deepening defence partnership between the two nations and underscore India's expanding role in the global arms market.
