India-Peru Discuss Trade, Energy, Defense, Digital Infrastructure, and More at 3rd Joint Commission Meeting

India and Peru held the Third Joint Commission Meeting in Lima on September 18 during which the two sides reviewed their bilateral relations and discussed ways to advance collaboration in trade and commerce, digital public infrastructure, energy and mining, defence, railways.

The meeting was co-chaired by Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East), and John Peter Camino Cannock, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru.

India thanked Peruvian participation of former Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea in the third Voice of Global South Summit (VOGSS) held in August this year, as well as, of President Dina Boluarte and former Vice Foreign Minister Ambassador Higueras for their participation in the first and second editions of VOGSS. Jaideep Mazumdar congratulated Peru for its bicentenary celebrations, a statement said.

Both sides comprehensively reviewed their bilateral relations and discussed ways to advance their collaboration in commerce & trade, digital public infrastructure, energy & mining, defence, railways, traditional medicine, science & technology, space, development partnership, and cultural fields.

They also discussed relevant multilateral and regional issues and took note of cooperation between the two countries in multilateral and international organizations.

Both sides agreed to exchange visits frequently and to periodically organize trade, cultural, educational, and other bilateral events.

Earlier, Secretary (East) paid floral tribute at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Lince Park, Lima and launched the ‘Swachhata hi Seva’ campaign of the Embassy of India in Lima on September 17. He also administered the Swachhata pledge to Embassy officials and supervised the Swachhata campaign undertaken by the Embassy. Secretary (East) planted a ‘Tree of Life’ under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign in the premises of the Embassy.

Secretary (East) also interacted with Minister of Social Inclusion Julio Demartini and members of India-Peru Bi-national Chamber of Commerce.

Secretary (East) participated in the celebrations of 60th anniversary of "Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC)” day on September 18 and interacted with ITEC alumni. Peruvian Vice Foreign Minister Peter Camino and Peruvian Vice Education Minister Cecilia del Pilar García Díaz along with over 100 ITEC alumni attended the event.

On September 19, Secretary (East) also met with Peruvian Vice Minister of Health Eric Ricardo Pena Sanchez to discuss health and pharmaceutical sector cooperation between the two countries, the statement added.
