Indian Army Launches 96-Rally Agniveer Drive, Prioritizes Recruitment of Women

As political discussions surrounding the Agniveer recruitment scheme intensify ahead of elections, the Indian Army has announced a nationwide recruitment drive for 2024-25. The campaign includes 96 rallies across the country, with 11 specifically focused on recruiting women into the Corpsof Military Police (CMP).

This ambitious recruitment plan reflects the Army's commitment to both attracting a wide pool of talented individuals and increasing gender diversity within its ranks. A total of 12 lakh 80 thousand candidates have registered for the upcoming online combined entrance examination, signaling strong interest in armed forces careers among India's youth. The exam will take place in 174 locations from April 22 to May 7.

The Agniveer scheme, introduced in 2022, has restructured recruitment for the armed forces. It offers four-year contractual service, with the potential for 25% of recruits to be selected for permanent positions. While the program has faced some criticism, the Army asserts that it will steadily increase the number of Agniveers inducted.

The Indian Army's focus on recruiting women highlights a shift towards greater inclusivity. While the Air Force and Navy have begun inducting women under the Agniveer scheme, this marks a significant step for the Army. Currently, there are approximately 200 women serving in the CMP, with plans to eventually increase that number to 1700.

The Indian Army's extensive recruitment efforts demonstrate its dedication to building a strong and diverse force. This drive presents a valuable opportunity for young Indians who aspire to serve their country.
