India's ambitious Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter (TEDBF) program is set to incorporate cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance its capabilities. Inheriting advanced features from the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, the TEDBF will feature AI-assisted automatic landing and take-off systems specifically designed for carrier operations.

This technology promises to significantly improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of naval aviation, positioning the TEDBF as a leader in its class.

Carrier-based fighter operations are inherently challenging, with landings being particularly demanding due to limited deck space, the movement of the carrier influenced by waves and wind, and unpredictable weather conditions. These factors create a high-stress environment with minimal margin for error.

The AI-assisted landing and take-off system in the TEDBF will enable the aircraft to perform these maneuvers autonomously, with minimal pilot input. This automation offers several advantages:
  • Enhanced Safety: By automating critical processes, the AI system reduces the risk of human error, which is especially crucial during stressful carrier landings.
  • Improved Reliability: AI can compensate for adverse conditions like low visibility, strong crosswinds, or carrier motion, ensuring safer and more reliable operations.
  • Increased Efficiency: Automated take-offs and landings can streamline carrier operations, reducing downtime and increasing mission readiness.
  • Reduced Wear and Tear: Precise AI-controlled maneuvers can save fuel and reduce stress on the landing gear, potentially extending the aircraft's operational lifespan.
This AI-driven system gives the TEDBF a significant edge over other modern naval fighters, including the F-35C and F-35B, which lack comparable autonomous landing and take-off capabilities. This positions the TEDBF as a frontrunner in innovation and usability for carrier-based operations.

The development of the TEDBF represents a major step forward for India's indigenous defence industry and its naval aviation capabilities. By incorporating advanced AI technology, the TEDBF is poised to be a game-changer in carrier-based operations, offering enhanced safety, efficiency, and reliability for pilots and contributing to India's growing prowess in the Indo-Pacific region.

That means TEDBF will be ahead of F-35C & F-35B. The only thing that will differentiate them is the stealth design and internal weapons. That's a great concept.

It is going to be more beneficial and time ahead by inheriting 5th Technologies in it. Still keeping operational cost low in comaprison to 5th gen products.

This will certainly help to increase safety for the jet, pilot and carrier but we will still need to make sure that our pilots are well trained and experienced enough to take off and land without relying on the AI assisted technology.

In some cases the technology might have an error, face some problems or it gets damaged in a dog fight and not work properly. In those scenarios it’s important that they are trained well and have a good amount of experience to take off and land properly and safely in the traditional way.
