Jammu and Kashmir's Director General of Police (DGP), R.R. Swain, announced on Friday that the police force is procuring advanced weaponry from Israel and Germany to enhance its capabilities in combating terrorism.

This move comes in response to recent encounters where terrorists were found to be using sophisticated weapons, such as US-made M-4 carbines.

In a statement to reporters during a function honoring nine Special Police Officers (SPOs) for their bravery in a counter-terrorism operation in Kathua, DGP Swain affirmed, "We will be having the latest weapon system to counter our enemy." He emphasized that the new procurement will significantly bolster the police's firepower and enable them to more effectively tackle terrorist threats.

DGP Swain recently declared the police's readiness to confront foreign terrorists in Jammu and their commitment to neutralizing such threats proactively. In recent encounters in Kathua and Doda, five foreign terrorists were killed, and three US-made M-4 carbines, among other weapons, were recovered.

DGP Swain also commended the courage and patriotism of the people of Kathua, highlighting their historical support for the armed forces in defending the nation. He revealed plans to strengthen the Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in the district to further enhance security measures.

Furthermore, the DGP announced a new policy to regularize SPOs who demonstrate exceptional bravery in counter-terrorism operations. This decision aims to recognize and reward the courageous actions of these officers within 24 hours of their heroic acts.
