The United States has officially launched "major combat operations" in Iran. President Donald Trump announced the military campaign, codenamed Operation Epic Fury, following a series of joint strikes with Israel earlier this morning.
The U.S. and Israeli forces have targeted multiple Iranian cities, including the capital, Tehran, where smoke and explosions have been reported. Other locations reportedly hit include Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah.
President Trump has stated the operation is designed to eliminate "imminent threats," specifically targeting Iran's missile industry, naval forces, and nuclear capabilities. He vowed to "raze their missile industry to the ground" and ensure Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reportedly begun a retaliatory wave of missile and drone attacks toward Israel. Israel has declared a national state of emergency and closed its airspace.
In a video message, Trump addressed the Iranian people directly, telling them "the hour of your freedom is at hand" and urging them to "take over your government".
