Our forces could have done much more during Op Sindoor but chose restraint: Defence Minister

Our forces could have done much more during Op Sindoor but chose restraint Defence Minister-1.webp

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the armed forces “could have done much more” during Operation Sindoor in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, but deliberately opted for a “restrained” and “calibrated” response.

The operation in May underscored both the capability and discipline of the Indian forces, who neutralised terror threats without escalation, Singh said. “During Operation Sindoor, the coordination we witnessed among our armed forces, the civil administration, and the citizens of the border areas was incredible. I express my gratitude to every citizen of Ladakh as well as the border areas for extending their support to our armed forces,” the defence minister said after inaugurating 125 infrastructure projects in different parts of the nation, which were completed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

“This coordination is what defines our identity. It is our mutual bond that gives us the most distinct identity in the world,” Singh said.

“Just a few months ago, we witnessed how, in response to the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, our armed forces executed Operation Sindoor, and the world knows what they did to the terrorists. Of course, we could have done much more had we wanted, but our forces demonstrated not only valour but also restraint, doing only what was necessary,” the defence minister said.Stressing that such a massive operation became possible due to strong connectivity, Singh said, “Our armed forces were able to deliver logistics right on time. Connectivity with the border areas was also maintained, giving Operation Sindoor its historic success.”

He added that improved connectivity in the border areas is transforming security in multiple ways and enabling troops to operate more effectively in difficult terrains. “Today, our soldiers stand strong in difficult terrains because they have access to roads, real-time communication systems, satellite support, surveillance networks, and logistics connectivity. Every minute, every second of a soldier deployed on the border is extremely important. Therefore, connectivity should not be viewed merely as limited to networks, optical fibre, drones, and radars, but rather as the backbone of security,” Singh said.

The defence minister added that if he can meet the armed forces in any corner of the country, it is possible only because of strong communication networks and connectivity.

“Communication should not be viewed merely in terms of infrastructure. It is a very broad term. Communication is essential for peace, harmony, and understanding of society,” he said, adding that the government’s constant endeavour has been to strengthen communication and connectivity with all the border areas, including Ladakh.

The Central government is working with full enthusiasm for the holistic development of the border areas, he said.

“Our government, our armed forces, and organisations such as the BRO stand with you. We just need to keep strengthening this bond so that our relationship is not affected by any external element,” the defence minister said.

He added that improved connectivity is not only strengthening security and infrastructure but also driving economic growth.

Citing the 8.2 per cent GDP expansion in the second quarter of 2025-26, Singh said stronger communication and connectivity networks have been a key enabler, supported by the government’s pro-growth policies and nationwide reforms.

Restraint?

Why not say "India is a weak country and only cares about keeping its billionaires happy"

We had an opportunity to destroy every airfield and military assets in Pakistan. Had complete air dominance. Waited for Pakistan to sue for peace. We could have insisted that Pakistan had to remove all forces 100km from the Indian border. Maybe leave Kashmir.

You wonder if Indian leaders visited the Epstein Island?

Talking about the Epstein Island, an oil and gas technician from America told me that every morning his door along Mumbai's shores was knocked by desperate hungry young ladies looking for food and money for their relatives. I asked him whether he found out whether they were being forced to do that by small pakistanis ? While so called do gooders jump up and down with slogans and placards body parts continue being sourced. People continue being forced to blow themselves up. It's about time you look around your neighbourhood.

I have no idea what you are talking about?

India always hold back in the verge of victory. Why?? You tell me.
I am talking about the underworld maybe if you don't understand then the next could be show you why innocent young get prepared for prostitution and other unlawful activities. Corrupting the morals while pretending not seeing anything. Discouragement of those trying to uplift the nation is an age old tactic of weakening a people. First of all you didn't do anything did you ? You say on the verge of whatever that you didn't lift a finger, hope you were previously giving ample uplift to those who were doing the job and only now you have found out that they are bloody weak and useless. Maybe you were previously calling them capable, I have no idea, only you do, Sir/Madam or whatever I should address you with.

Listen, maybe in India you can't get any the normal way because of culture. I live in Canada and Indian men and women do what they want. Much more liberal.

I have run corporations and public companies. I am not an idiot. I know how the world works, I tried to create business in India, after spending millions, I realized it easier to make money in Canada. Nothing happens in India without money changing hands with the babus. I feel bad that it's still that way.

Most NRIs had the same experience. It took 4 days for my elderly parents to get there money out of the bank in India. Lots of Chai and sweets. End of the day, someone wanted to be paid. They wouldn't ever do that. Once they got their money. they donated it to the school board to make a new school in Punjab with modern computers and everything else you would get in a world class school in Canada. Let's say it was in the million USD.

I am hard on India because I care about the country. We went through a lot in Canada, racism and the struggle. We are tough people. We made it.

I know your type of people and I love you. Thanks for showing your true self. Truth has it's own power and creates own momentum. That is happening right here in front of our eyes. That experience probably happens to normal Indians. Fortunately we were sent out before Europeans came to Asia. We enriched ourselves with law and order that followed.
However the second world war made us poor Me in particular am hoping of being of service to our mother country. I am an Australian with Malaysian heritage only came to India in 2013 to see the children of the 36 souls lined up and shot along the Gurdwara wall on 20th March 2000. One of your Canadians had come before me and he had used his money to build tables and chairs for these Children's primary school. They asked me to help build a secondary school. I returned the next year and Omar Abdullah the chief minister had told them that he would build it. I returned thirteen years later to see with my own eyes, yes it has been built but not operational. In the meantime all these happenings had motivated Bollywood and a movie was created. Now evelybody has or is in the process of building palaces for themselves.

I agree what you are saying.

We have no palacing in India. We are now Canadians. That doesn't mean we don't care or are not working to help India. All my criticism are to the benefit of India.

I was talking about ordinary folks in Kashmir and not about overseas Indians. There is a shortage of labour in Kashmir. Maybe you don't travel cheap like I do. Among the 13 people packed into my taxi, 11 were labourers from other states. They were asked to alight and walk at a check point maybe documentation purposes, maybe the chai and sweet refreshing, I was not required for those special Indian requirements. All 11 were travelling to Kashmir for the first time. It took us nearly 20 hours of travelling, there were landslides everywhere, and we crawled our way through. The driver had not slept for 4 days, I argued with the others to let him stop and sleep which he did near Pahalgam and then when I was the only passenger left I allowed him to sleep while we parked in the middle of Anandnag. Another local wanted to take me to his house if I didn't have a place to sleep. I walked around and satisfied myself by going to the house of the Hindu medical professional who didn't leave like his community. So Sir I have shared the roti and chai from a flask with Muslim farmers, I have slept on the floor in Sikh houses and I managed to convince locals that I really had to meet Hindus and an old man took me to the house and sat outside in case I was going to harm their most precious resident.
And that individual asked me to leave because I was upset why a medical person was consuming a handful of pills and calling diabetes " sugar ". I am a crazy person who says that sugar doesn't cause diabetes but is necessary for the proper functioning of the brain and telling lies blaming sugar damages brain cells which creates an avalanche of people suffering dementia. Truth has it's own power and generates its own momentum.
