Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) has successfully rolled out its 400th fuselage for the AH-64E Apache attack helicopter from its state-of-the-art facility in Hyderabad on September 7, 2026.
This significant milestone highlights India's rapidly expanding role as a key manufacturing hub in the global aerospace and defence supply chain.
Established in 2016 as a joint venture between aerospace giant Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), TBAL manufactures these fuselages in India before they are integrated into completed aircraft and supplied to customers worldwide, including the United States Army.
The massive 52,000-square-meter Hyderabad facility employs over 750 engineers and technicians who utilise advanced robotics and modern aerospace automation technologies to craft the aerostructures.
The latest rollout builds on a strong production momentum, as the company previously delivered its 300th Apache fuselage in February 2025.
Strengthening India's Military Fleet
The AH-64E Apache, known for its advanced capabilities in armed reconnaissance, close air support, and anti-armour operations, is a critical asset for the Indian military.Currently, India operates a total of 28 Apache helicopters. The Indian Air Force flies 22 AH-64E aircraft, while the Indian Army bolstered its aviation wing by receiving six Apaches in 2025.
The successful indigenous manufacturing of these crucial components aligns with India's broader push to build robust domestic capabilities and position its industries as reliable suppliers for major global defence programmes.
Expanding Defence Partnerships: The Javelin Programme
The Apache programme is just one aspect of Tata Advanced Systems' growing footprint in India's defence manufacturing ecosystem.Recently, TASL took another major step by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Javelin Joint Venture—a prominent partnership between American defence firms Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.
This agreement explores the co-production of the Javelin All Up Round (AUR) missile within India. The proposed initiative aims to establish a dedicated final assembly and integration facility, alongside domestic component manufacturing capabilities.
Under the plan, sub-assembly kits and guidance electronics produced in the US will be shipped to India for final integration, creating high-tech local jobs while enhancing the country's self-reliance.
This MoU closely follows a recent agreement between the Indian and US governments for the procurement of Javelin anti-tank guided weapon systems for the Indian Army, further cementing strategic ties and supporting stability across the Indo-Pacific region.
