Tejas Mk2 Prototype to Initially Equip with Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) of Tejas Mk1 for Faster Development

In a strategic move to accelerate the development of the Tejas Mk2 fighter jet, the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) has announced that the first prototype will be equipped with Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) from the existing Tejas Mk1. This decision allows for quicker prototyping and initial trials without delays caused by waiting for the development of new-generation LRUs.

The Tejas Mk2, envisioned as a 4.5-generation fighter, bridges the gap between the Tejas Mk1/Mk1A and the fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).

While the initial prototype will utilize proven components from the Mk1, these will be replaced in the production phase with advanced LRUs currently under development for the AMCA program. These new LRUs promise significant advancements in avionics, sensors, and mission management systems, ultimately enhancing the Tejas Mk2's operational capabilities.

This approach offers several advantages:
  • Reliability: Utilizing existing Mk1 LRUs ensures reliability during the crucial initial trials.
  • Cost-effectiveness: Leveraging readily available components avoids additional expenditure during the prototyping phase.

The Tejas Mk2 prototype is expected to make its first flight by 2026. Subsequent prototypes will incorporate iterative improvements, including the integration of the advanced LRUs. Yes, the Tejas MK2 is heading in the right direction. I don't think there will be any further delays. The main focus should be on preparing a proper production line to ensure the continuous delivery of the aircraft.

Lot will depend upon GE Supplying hot core section on Time for 20% remaining apart from inking deal for 80 % ToT for local eco-system for Integration of GE-414 Engine
 
As soon as Tejas MK2 finishes its trials, start Tejas-MK3 with GE-110-132 Engine to carry more weight and travel at speed MCAH-2.
 
MRFA need to be canceled and funds should be channelled to MK1A, MK2, ORCA (Kaveri Engine based Twin Engine Fighter) and AMCA only.

For prototypes a handful amount of GE F414 engines are with HAL... So prototype phase will go smoothly at least

Production will start only by 2030, so we have many years to set a facility and start assembling through raw materials
 
India needs to use these same LRU. So now we can cutq by down on development time and costs which we which we need. They need to start manufacturing the prototype and test our military jet’s capabilities and quality.
