Türkiye’s Homegrown Fighter Jet KAAN Conducts Maiden Test Flight

KAAN, a fighter jet made in Türkiye, conducted its maiden test flight on Wednesday, the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) said. The first fifth generation fighter jet manufactured domestically aims to replace the Turkish army’s aging fleet.

The latest development makes Türkiye one of a few countries to own this technology.

The aircraft, for which the project began in 2016, was rolled out in March 2023.

How many times are you going to repeat this? It feels like reading of upgradation of SU30MKi repeatedly with nothing new to add.
I repeated because people like start cursing indian companies and drdo without knowing reason behind it. Which you have already cried in previous comment.

We don't have engine what drdo can do. If engines would have been there then india can also do it in 7 years.
8 engines brought directly from GE. First 4 prototypes of LCA mk2 will have these imported engines. So what's the excuse now!?

Al 41 engine is too big for amca.
Ask same question for f35 weapons bay.
I have literally written that AL-41 is too big for AMCA and that AMCA is too small. The F-35 weapons bay on either side of the engine gives it depth and that has been adapted to carry six AMRAAMs from the initial 4. The AMCA with twin engines will lack that. And multirole sorties in stealth mode will be nearly impossible.

We are still discussing spv while turkey is already doing thier first flight. Difference is in quick decision making and allocating funding in our system as a whole.

Eight Turkish firms were involved in F-35 airframe and engine design, with Turkey selected to be the first European F-35 engine maintenance hub, so yeah they will be sprinting to the finish line. Good luck getting clearance from US for the engine though after S400 purchase.

Just knowing Turkey it is probably half baked fifth generation. Otherwise, we must then worry of Pakistan who is also part of program.
I would not worry about Pakistan getting this as they have not been able to get the Turkish attack helicopter or destroyers. They had to finally get the Chinese versions.

Before we get down to condemn our own ecosystem, DOES ANYONE HAS ANY UNDERSTANDING ON ITS DESIGN PHILOSOPHY, PROJECT ROADMAP, PROGRAM CONSULTANCY, FINANCES, CONOPS LITERATURES & OTHER TECHNICALITIES.❗

Turkiye hasn't been a favorite poster child of neither West nor Middle East since 2015-16 nor its economy --- especially S400-F35 saga, Kurdish & ISIS insurgency, coup & purges, Muslim Brotherhood, hyperinflation, etc....

Bade-Buzargo ne sadiyo pehle kaha hai: "Devil Lives in Details, Lurks in Shadows & Roams around wearing a Prada"❗❗❗

Good job by turkey, having a dictatorship and being allied to US for decades can certainly speed up things for them. But fact it I still thought US will create hurdles in terms of export just as they did for T129 helicopter issues by withholding engines.

They have other engine options other than American.

And India sits on it its A R S E S still talking about permissions to develop AMCA and even Tejas Mk 2.
What an effing tragedy.

Why do I feel so much shame reading this?
THE DRDO IS NOT THE PROBLEM...THE LOW IQ ENGINEERS FROM 3RD TIER ENGINEERING C0LLEGES WORKING IN DRDO GTRE ADE HAL ARE THE PROBLEM...

JUST HIRE HIGH IQ B TECH STUDENTS FROM IIT. NOT M TECH NOT PHD ONLY B TECH.

OR JUST TOP 500 RANKERS OF JEE ADVANCED. THEY WILL GIVE YOU JET ENGINE IN 4/5 YEARS.

Current situation is both DRDO and private companies hire only engineer from 3rd tier engineering colleges, hence no results

Also does not Matter it's DRDO or private company, until they hire high IQ B Tech students from IIT.. Nothing will change.

Main reason of DPSU failure
  1. Not hiring top high IQ people from IIT
  2. No accountability
If DPSU hires top 500 rankers of Jee advanced, we will get jet engine, Submarines in less than 5 years

THATS THE ONLY SOLUTION THATS THE ONLY SOLUTION.

I am sure it's a knock off from the F35 knowledge sharing during the honeymoon period with US. Now I am wondering if they are such an expert in aerospace tech why have they not been able to upgrade their F16 like the Israeli have done with their fighter jets from F-4 to F-35!!!

When the GoI is able to match the salary of DRDO scientists and engineers to that of private sector, then surely the top minds of the country will join DRDO and fulfill our requirements. ISRO also works with minds from tier 3 colleges and the ISRO Chairman earns about the same as the starting package of some IIT students. This shows that organisational culture and govt attitude is important.

If you are saying that anyone studing in government institutions like IITs and NITs should compulsorily work in PSUs for some years like medical students need to do government service then only minds will be acquired as some will obviously stay on.

And in the meantime India is still dic£ing around with Tejas for the last 20+ years for a 4++ fighter. And for those who say this is F35 knock off, i bet it probably kick the sh£t out of Tejas. Shame on DRDO!

Such news will be common when we have a govt led defense industry and a minister who is no different than Mr Antony who was replaced for doing nothing .

How is it the governments fault if our defence industry doesn't design and develop the technology that they need? Governments aren't scientists!

Turkey has done good job but we have to know that we don't have any single engine for amca while Turkey already licence producing f110 for many years due to f16 thus they have make kaan this quickly without engine drdo can't do any thing.
Even get ccs approval nothing will change look Tejas mk2 even got ccs approval still fighter jet is not flying
The only way that turkey managed to develop a stealth jet so quickly is because most of the technology, parts and equipment have been imported from the USA which has also been helping them. So in reality that isn't a exclusive indigenous jet but it's a primarily imported jet. As turkey is a member of NATO it has a lot of access to advanced technology from the USA and Europe. India is developing everything by itself with no help or aid so other than the engine the jet is indigenously developed in India which is better as it grows our military industry as well.

Currently India is negotiating the F414 engine with the USA as the first squadron or two will use that engine. After that India has also signed an agreement with Safran to produce a brand new engine with 100% of the technology transfer and local production.
