Türkiye’s 5th-gen stealth fighter KAAN to offer unique features

Türkiye’s first homegrown fifth-generation fighter jet, KAAN, which made its historic first test flight last week, will have unique features once launched. The country’s Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBITAK) is developing the aircraft with a special focus on technologies for invisibility, life support and explosion preventive systems, according to information received by Anadolu Agency (AA) on Monday.

The aircraft offers superior air dominance, increased air-to-air combat range with new weapons and precise strikes at supersonic speeds with its high-performance avionics system. New software and hardware will be added to the aircraft.

Technologies developed by TÜBITAK, including the central management computer, avionic interface units, deterministic network, multi-core real-time operating system and middleware software, were used in the first flight of KAAN.

KAAN is the ninth domestically manufactured aircraft Türkiye launched in the last decade, which, with its recently conducted 13-minute flight, marked yet another milestone on the self-sufficiency drive of the Turkish defense industry, which saw it not only being a major developer but also a significant exporter in recent years. The latest development makes Türkiye one of the few countries to own this technology.

The project, launched in 2016, aims to replace the Turkish army’s aging fleet, while Türkiye aims to use domestically produced engines on KAAN in serial production, which is expected to start in 2028.

The computer system, the brain of KAAN, was also developed by TÜBITAK.

TÜBITAK’s Defense Industry Research and Development Institute (SAGE) will conduct the integration process of the missile, weapon systems and kits, such as Som A, Som B1, Som B2, Hgk 82, Hgk 83, Hgk 84, Neb, Gökhan, Kgk 82, Kgk 83, Gökdo?an and Bozdo?an, into the country’s homegrown jet.

AMCA still awaiting approval, while turkey is working at breakneck speed.

dude, India has 2 more 4.5 gen gets in pipeline- tejas MK2 and TEDBF, India has to put main focus on those 2 first and put them in production. The expertise gained will help for AMCA. Not even america can pump out 3 new 4.5gen+ jets at same time.

But our adversaries are. Tejas mk2 is anyways cleared. AMCA needs to be approved asap. Cut foreign aid if required. But approval AMCA must, lest even turkey will leave us behind.

Turk's and Koreans already one up us already in 5gen aircraft technology while us are still hoping and believing if AMCA can be materialize....

I heard Koreans already designing their kf21 Boramae mk2 with internal bay to show that it's a real certified 5gen.... And it'll be produce before the 2030 earlier... The SK government is also weighing if the Philippines government would be interested of getting it with some technical knowledge transfer. Koreans consider Philippines as their benefactor who help them liberate against communist North Koreans, that's why if anything they can help to offer strengthening Philippines against China they'll give them anything available on their disposal....🙃

turkey only focusing on kaan. India is building 3 jets at same time. I have serious doubts about turkey putting kaan into production. There are lost of subsystems that go into a 5th gen jet. India has already developed many, and many more will be developed and put into tejas mk2 and tedbf.

Turkeys export figure is more than indias defense exports, they are really successful in multiple drone exports , we need to focus more on this...

Turkey is planning aircraft carrier. Once they decide, they implement it at all cost.
first of all, turkey does not have any aircraft for naval carrier. They are planning drone carrier. Much much easier than making proper aircraft carrier. Also, it would be pretty useless vs an enemy with a proper airforce or navy. Anyways, right now they are in planning phase, it will take them 15 years to commision it at least, if they decide to build it. But i doubt that since they are going through an economic crisis.

Turkey is quite advanced in the field of avionics, developing multiple subsystems for their advanced drone industry and F-16s and more recently the TAI Hurjet.
no, building drones, is nothing compared to a fifth gen fighter. India also had lots of experience building aircraft and helicopters, but it took india 20 years to perfect tejas, which is a light fighter. those drones which turkey is so proud of would be paperweights in front of a country with a proper airforce and navy and air defences.

Drones involve lot of the technology that you credit India for like fly by wire, datalink. India has been leapfrogged by Turkey and South Korea and denying it is copium. Turkey has also made AESA radars and a range of air to ground munitions and are lagging somewhat in air to air missiles and are testing a lot. The airframe is the only thing that they are developing as a new capability. As for drones getting shot down, that is precisely why they are built, which is save human lives. But it is still more than what can be said for India and what do you mean by decades of experience, Turkey has that too. They have been building F-16s under license for decades, so is the case for Helicopters.

We haven't even officially commenced our programme as yet with the worry that our AMCA will very likely be obsolete by the time it flies!
