Yantra India Limited Sees Explosive Growth in 155mm Shell Exports

Yantra India Limited (YIL), a cornerstone of India's state-owned defense industry, is experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand for its 155mm artillery shells. This surge, driven primarily by growing international interest, has propelled the company into a period of rapid expansion.

Traditionally, YIL focused on meeting domestic demand, fulfilling yearly orders for approximately 50,000 to 60,000 shells. However, the company has now pivoted towards the global market, scaling up production to meet the needs of a growing clientele of international buyers. This strategic shift has resulted in a full order book for 155mm shells extending well into 2026-27, a testament to the high regard in which YIL's products are held.

The financial implications of this export boom are significant. YIL is projecting a substantial revenue increase, potentially reaching ₹3900 crore in the current fiscal year. This success story mirrors that of Munitions India Limited (MIL), another Indian defense PSU, which secured a landmark $225 million contract for 155mm shells with Saudi Arabia in February 2024.

This burgeoning export market for Indian-made 155mm shells signifies a watershed moment for the country's defense industry. It showcases India's growing prowess in manufacturing high-quality, internationally competitive military equipment.

The increased production not only fuels YIL's revenue but also generates a ripple effect of positive outcomes. Job creation, technological advancements, and an enhanced reputation as a reliable defense supplier are just some of the benefits India stands to reap.

YIL's export-driven growth paints a promising picture for India's future in the global arms market. The company's ability to capitalize on this demand will be pivotal in further solidifying India's position as a key player in the international defense landscape.

No wonder with wars going on in full swing export orders have increased. Ukraine needs a lot & someone is purchasing on behalf of western nations whose stockpile has depleted.

Staying neutral is good for business. To stay neutral, we should price things differently for different countries. Western budgets are way higher. Russia as a friend, should get an obvious discount - assuming they are interested in stockpiling Indian shells. Shell-Oil barter has a nice ring to it 🙂

More than capacity or capability, this indicates a coming of age of the Indian quality. There should be no looking back from here. We need local jobs, and god forbid in case a two front war breaks, we will need such shells ourselves, and in great hurry too.

Our industry also needs to focus on export of rockets, loitering suicide drones & anti-drone systems for which there is a huge & growing demand internationally.

Thank god the B J P turned the worthless OFB into corporations as now those companies are growing at a fast pace and they aren't in thousands of crore in debt. India should increase production lines even further to reduce production costs and increase profit margins. India should also look to sell these shells to countries at war or at a regular risk but we have to compete against China and now is the ideal time as China isn't popular around the world, its growth rate dropping, trade wars with the USA and faces USA and European sanctions.

Ruskis have been taking our money and swallowing it whole without delivering for a while.

Atleast it's good to see our ammunition department is growing faster indigenously.
And also exported to both Ukraine and Russia thru' Armenia Tajikistan and other EU countries. BOTH, MIL and dis company are making world class 155mm artillery ammos - MUCH better than Porks or even CCP ammos now....

Sell weapon when nobody was willing sell to us is considered as scam nowadays?

And in geopolitics nobody is nobodies friend it's just temporary thing when both parties interests are common

Best part is the increase in capacity. In case of future war with china , this increase in capacity will play a role in our winning.

Russia is NOT your friend dear Indians - Russia is a Chinese proxy and Chinese servant now! You keep confusing the Soviet Union and Russia.. Russia is not the strong and powerful Soviet Union that helped you against the US proxy Pakistan... Imagine a war between India and China- which is very likely... On which side will Russia stand? It is clear that on the side of China!Times have changed - the US is not your enemy and does not support your enemies... Finally wake up from your romantic ideas about Russia- Russia is a weak technologically 40 years behind poor country completely dependent on China.. This country is not able to defeat a small insignificant backward Ukraine, which had 60,000 soldiers at the beginning of the war with Russia!!! Russia had about 650,000 troops at the beginning of 2022!!! Russia can give you NOTHING except cheap oil...Politics is not about emotions politics is about strength and India also needs strong allies especially against China and its proxy Pakistan...Or you really don't need Arunachalpradesh?
