Adani Group Plans to Invest $2.5 Billions in Defence Sector, Focusing on Drone Technology

The Adani Group, a prominent Indian conglomerate, is making significant strides into the defense sector with a planned investment of $2-2.5 billion over the next few years.

The company's focus includes acquiring drone technology firms in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, known for their expertise in developing reconnaissance drones for hostile environments. Talks with these firms are underway, and a deal is expected to be finalized soon.

This move aligns with Adani's broader strategy to expand its defense capabilities. Earlier this year, Adani Defence & Aerospace partnered with the UAE-based EDGE Group to collaborate on various defense projects, including missiles, weapons systems, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and cyber technologies.

Adani has already made substantial investments in the sector, launching a ₹3,000-crore ammunition factory in Kanpur and announcing plans to invest ₹1,000 crore in Telangana to establish counter-drone and missile facilities.

In 2023, the company acquired Alpha Design Technologies, a Bengaluru-based firm specializing in aerospace technology, further strengthening its capabilities. This acquisition led to the transfer of ISRO's IMS-1 Satellite Bus Technology to Alpha Design Technologies in May 2023.

The company has also actively collaborated with the DRDO on various projects, including naval anti-ship missiles. Adani's commitment to indigenous development was highlighted by the launch of the Drishti 10, an indigenously manufactured advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform, in 2023.

Adani's ambitious plans for the defence sector extend beyond acquisitions and indigenous development. The company aims to increase investments in unmanned systems, small arms, missiles, and indigenous artillery guns.

Additionally, it is focusing on establishing maintenance, repair, and overhaul solutions in India, further solidifying its presence in the defense sector.

Immediately needed investment and a technological leap frog. It is ungently needed. Thanks Adani Group.
