IAF ordered L&T High Power Radar (HPR) based on ELTA’s Tech

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is poised to bolster its surveillance and defense capabilities with the acquisition of new high-power radars and close-in weapon systems from Larsen and Toubro (L&T). With deals worth approximately Rs 13,000 crore approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security.

Initially shrouded in ambiguity regarding the origin of the high-power radar, recent developments indicate that L&T’s High Power Radar (HPR) will be a licensed variant of the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Elta-developed ELM-2084 MMR. This advanced radar system, equipped with 3D Multi-beam Operation by Active Electronically Steered Array (AESA) technology, offers unparalleled capabilities in aerial surveillance and threat detection.

The ELM-2084 MMR, renowned for its concurrent 360-degree azimuth coverage and Integrated Friend or Foe (IFF) system, enables continuous tracing and seamless tracking of airborne targets across various operational environments. Designed to detect a wide range of aerial threats, including low Radar Cross Section platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), tactical aerial weapons, loitering munitions, cruise missiles, and Tactical Ballistic Missiles (TBM), the HPR serves as a critical asset in India’s air defense arsenal.

One of the key features of the HPR is its ability to detect and track Rockets, Artillery, and Mortars (RAM), providing invaluable situational awareness and early warning capabilities to military commanders on the ground. This comprehensive threat detection capability enhances the IAF’s ability to neutralize airborne and surface-based threats effectively, safeguarding critical assets and personnel from potential attacks.

So how much profit LT is making just by putting their logo on the radar in their assembly plant in Gujarat - PM, HM & MoSD's home state? Is the ATMANIRBHAR scheme a licence for Gujarat based pvt companies to mint money?

What the point of importing and putting a desi sticker on it?. Big Indian pvt cos don't want to spend high on R&D.
Its not just importing & stickering if you read the fine print. Its licensed manufacturing which itself needs certain skillset & time to master. Neither IAI nor Raytheon started producing world class radars from scratch in 6 months. This is the first of many steps that this Govt is promoting & handholding the pvt sectors to make them up to speed & given the reputation of L&T, they would soon be producing world class weapon platforms

So ask your scamgressi MLAs to bring the manufacturing to your state na if they get time from looting & scamming public

Fictional report, L&T may be a contender but not the chosen one.. DRDO radar made by Astra microwave is also in the race...

Good, but could we have not developed and built our own GaaN based AESA long range discrimination radar like UTTAM...Something to think about...Long term we really needs space based sensors (infrared, ISR, radars, targeting) in VLEO/LEO Orbit like starshield and SIBIRs program of the US, at least around IOR.

Agree 100%. Either you import and pay lots of Money or Licence produce and eventually replace lots of components.

Just like k90 howitzer. L&t has produced howitzer that outclass it. Is it? If america's private players are so great why haven't they been able to produce s400 like system? Brahmos like missile? Armata like tank? Remember usa spends 10 times that of russia!

All these radars pose healt problems because of radiation. But, they are necessary. Hopefully they can invent safe versions.

Whichever company that wins the contract India needs these high powered radars along the LAC first so that we can set up a integrated air defence network that gives us the ready to shoot option at all times against drones, helicopters or jets. But India has to first install the necessary infrastructure like power cables whice haven't even connected border villages to the national grid yet so it will take a long time unless the military get the job done. After that India should install the indigenously designed and developed AESA radars which will be even harder.

DRDO has already developed a GAs HPR. But IAF probably wants a GaN version.
Entertaining snakes who will put trojans who work for five eyes. Just remember Israeli spider shooting down our Russian mi17 after Balakot. Trust foreign and have their agents spy on you.
