Paras Defence Secures Exclusive Indian Manufacturing Rights for High-Speed Guardian-1 Counter-Drone Interceptor Tech

Indian aerospace and defence firm Paras Defence and Space Technologies Ltd has inked a major Intellectual Property (IP) licensing pact with Tandem Defence LLC, which operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the US-based Autonomous Power Corporation (Powerus).

This strategic move grants the Indian company exclusive access to the advanced Guardian-1 Interceptor technology, significantly boosting the nation's domestic anti-drone capabilities.

Through this deal, Paras Defence holds the sole, non-transferable rights to produce and sell the Guardian-1 Interceptor across India. This positions the firm as a key provider of modern counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) equipment in a rapidly growing domestic defence sector.

The contract strictly limits the use of the licensed technology to the Indian market. It also outlines how the companies will handle IP management, local manufacturing, and sales.

To support production, Paras Defence is permitted to collaborate with other domestic partners to streamline operations and ensure the technology is effectively integrated into the nation's security framework.

Initially set for a 12-month period, the partnership can be extended if both parties mutually agree. In its regulatory filings, Paras Defence emphasised that this is a straightforward commercial arrangement.

The Indian firm does not own shares in Tandem Defence, nor is it a related-party transaction. Furthermore, there are no existing ties between the promoters of Paras Defence and the US-based entity.

Developed by Powerus, the Guardian-1 is a battery-operated, high-speed interceptor built specifically to eliminate inexpensive airborne threats.

With commercial drones and loitering munitions becoming a standard feature in modern conflicts, traditional missile-based air defence systems are often too costly to use against them.

Dedicated interceptors like the Guardian-1 offer a highly manoeuvrable, cost-efficient alternative to neutralise hostile drones conducting surveillance or attack missions.

This new "hard-kill" or kinetic interceptor technology fits perfectly into Paras Defence's broader strategy.

The company already commands a strong presence in the market through its subsidiary, Paras Anti-Drone Technologies, which recently rolled out soldier-portable drone detectors and handheld jammers.

While those existing systems focus on "soft-kill" tactics like radio frequency jamming and GPS disruption, the Guardian-1 adds a physical destruction layer.

This offers armed forces, paramilitary organisations, and homeland security agencies a comprehensive shield to protect critical assets like airports, refineries, and military bases.

As India continues to face evolving aerial threats along its borders, the demand for reliable, multi-layered anti-drone solutions is surging.

By securing the rights to manufacture the Guardian-1 locally, Paras Defence is not only strengthening its portfolio but also actively supporting the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The positive market response to the announcement, reflected in a recent surge in the company's share price, highlights the strong commercial and strategic value of bringing this critical technology to Indian soil.
