Satellite imagery reportedly released by the Indian Air Force (IAF) indicates the complete destruction of several Pakistani Air Force (PAF) AN/TPS-77 radar systems, which were acquired from Lockheed Martin.
The images also allegedly show extensive damage to main radar installations and infrastructure at seven PAF airbases, significantly impacting Pakistan's air defence capabilities.
The AN/TPS-77 radars are advanced, mobile, long-range air surveillance systems designed for early warning and detection of aerial threats. Pakistan had recently incorporated these Lockheed Martin-manufactured systems to enhance its air defence network. However, the imagery purportedly shows that at least three of these newly acquired units have been rendered non-operational.
Specifically, "before" and "after" satellite pictures of the Ijwala Air Defence Radar site and the Chunian Air Defence Radar site are said to clearly show the radar heads and entire sites as destroyed following the strikes. This suggests a high level of precision in targeting these valuable assets.
The AN/TPS-77 is known for its capability to detect aircraft at considerable distances and is a crucial component of a modern integrated air defence system.
In addition to these specific radar systems, the satellite evidence reportedly reveals damage to primary radar facilities at seven PAF airbases. These airfields include Sargodha, Sukkur, Bholari, Jacobabad, Akalala (also known as Nur Khan Airbase), Rahim Yar Khan, and a repeated mention of Sukkur. The imagery allegedly details a damaged and repaired runway surface at Sargodha Airfield, suggesting disruption to flight operations.
At Sukkur Airfield, the radar site is marked as destroyed, with nearby shelters also appearing to have been hit. Bholari Airfield imagery indicates a severely damaged aircraft hangar. Significant structural damage is apparent at Jacobabad and Akalala Airfields, while building damage is noted at Rahim Yar Khan Airfield, which would likely impede its operational functions.
According to the IAF's presentation of this imagery, the operation highlights its capacity for detailed intelligence gathering and the execution of complex, coordinated attacks across multiple geographically spread locations.
The targeting of both the recently acquired AN/TPS-77 systems and the main radar infrastructure at key airbases is interpreted as a move that has severely weakened Pakistan's aerial surveillance and air defence network. This reported action aims to demonstrate India's capability to achieve air dominance and effectively neutralise critical enemy infrastructure with precision.
