Nearly two months after Khalistani posters and slogans were found in Nakodar, police have arrested three agents of terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu . Pannu and his five agents have been charged with promoting enmity between different groups, conspiring to wage war against the Government of India and criminal conspiracy.
Those booked include Pannu, a native of Khankot village under Jandiala Guru police station in Amritsar, who currently lives in the US, Nakodar DSP Sukhpal Singh said. His agents have been identified as Balkaran Singh and Bir Sukhpal Singh, residents of Khanpur Dhadda village, Kartik of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar in Nakodar, Tejpal Singh alias Palli of Ranjit Nagar under Nakodar (City) police station and Jaskaranpreet Singh alias Bawa.
Tejpal Singh, Bir Sukhpal Singh and Kartik have been arrested, the DSP said. He said Jaskarpreet Singh lives in the UK, while Balkar Singh is currently in Canada. The DSP said the accused had pasted Khalistani posters on walls near National College and State Public School in Nakodar on February 13. They made a video of it and posted it on social media.
On February 28, they wrote anti-Khalistani and anti-Modi slogans on a highway bridge near the truck union office. The DSP said Pannu is the main conspirator who made the videos viral on social media and paid Balkar Singh in Canada. Balkar Singh then sent money to his Indian associates to paste posters, write slogans and incite people and engage in anti-India activities to disrupt peace in the state. Later, a case was registered against the accused under sections 196, 148 and 61(2) of the BNS.
