Bitmapper Integration Technologies, based in Pune, is a rising star in India's defence manufacturing landscape. Acquired by the Phoenix Group in 2021, Bitmapper has evolved from its origins in electronics design and manufacturing for DRDO labs to become a provider of innovative solutions for the Indian Armed Forces and global defence organizations.

Ameya Kandalkar, Group Director of the Phoenix Group, shared insights into Bitmapper's journey and its contributions to Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

Bitmapper's journey began in 1998 with a focus on electronics design and manufacturing for DRDO labs. The acquisition by the Phoenix Group marked a turning point, shifting the company's focus towards integrating and developing new products.

Today, Bitmapper operates two verticals: services and products. The services vertical continues to provide electronics design and manufacturing support for critical defence applications, while the products vertical focuses on robotics, electro-optics, and drones.

In the realm of robotics, Bitmapper develops systems for barrel cleaning and inspection of artillery and tank guns, as well as robotic inspection boards for naval guns and torpedo tubes.

The company also possesses in-house expertise in designing and manufacturing day, thermal, and laser rangefinder cameras. Their indigenized products include the Barak target-tracking missile camera and various systems for naval destroyers and submarines.

Bitmapper has carved a niche for itself in the development of tethered drones, capable of continuous 12-hour operation. These drones utilize tethered cables for power and communication, ensuring secure and jam-free operation, and can carry customizable payloads for a variety of applications.

Bitmapper actively collaborates with the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, providing tailored solutions such as body cameras, trail cameras, and indigenized camera systems. Their barrel-cleaning equipment has undergone extensive trials with the Army, highlighting their commitment to developing robust and user-centric products.

While Bitmapper is actively pursuing export opportunities, their primary focus remains on meeting the specific needs of the Indian armed forces. The company adopts a dual approach: initiating solutions based on observed problem statements and customizing products in response to specific demands.

Bitmapper also offers specialized solutions for naval applications, including an underwater camera capable of capturing high-definition images and videos at depths of up to 2000 meters. This camera system is designed for various submerged operations, showcasing the company's versatility in catering to diverse defence requirements.

Bitmapper's commitment to innovation and self-reliance aligns with India's vision for a robust defence ecosystem. Their diverse product portfolio, including advanced robotics, electro-optics, and drone technologies, positions them as a key player in the evolving landscape of Indian defence manufacturing. As Bitmapper continues to expand its footprint both domestically and globally, it exemplifies the growing capabilities and aspirations of India's indigenous defence industry.
