The Indian Army is embracing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance its operational effectiveness across various domains, including surveillance, reconnaissance, and logistics.

Army officials have confirmed that AI-powered drones and satellite systems are now being deployed to gather intelligence and provide real-time data for strategic decision-making.

"AI-powered drones and satellite systems are being used for intelligence gathering, providing real-time data for strategic decision-making. In logistics and supply chain management, AI algorithms can optimise supply chain operations, ensuring timely delivery of essential resources to the frontline," Army officials told.

The use of AI extends beyond intelligence gathering. The Army is also utilizing AI to bolster its cybersecurity, leveraging its ability to detect and respond to cyber threats in real-time.

"AI can prove to be very effective for cybersecurity as it is employed to detect and respond to cyber threats, enhancing the resilience of military networks," the officials added.

Furthermore, AI is being used to create realistic training simulations for personnel, improving their preparedness and response times. "AI-driven simulations provide realistic training environments for personnel, improving readiness and response times," the officials explained.

The integration of AI has far-reaching implications for the Indian Armed Forces:
  • Enhanced decision-making: AI can process vast amounts of data and provide actionable insights, supporting commanders in making informed decisions.
  • Improved combat capabilities: AI enables the use of autonomous systems and facilitates precision strikes, increasing operational effectiveness.
  • Streamlined logistics: AI optimises resource management, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of essential supplies to frontline units.
  • Strengthened cyber defence: AI plays a growing role in cyber warfare, bolstering both offensive capabilities and defensive measures against digital threats.
