HAL receives fourth GE-F404 fighter jet engine for LCA Tejas Mk1A from US

HAL receives fourth GEF404 fighter jet engine for LCA Tejas Mk1A from US-1.webp

US-headquartered engine maker General Electric, on Wednesday said it had delivered the fourth engine for the under-production Tejas Mark 1-A jets, raising hopes for an early induction of the jet into the Indian Air Force that is facing a serious shortage.

The plane maker, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is facing a delay in the supply of GE’s F-404 engines for the Tejas Mark-1A. Almost a dozen jets are ready at the HAL facility, however, so far only three engines had been supplied by the GE. In turn, this has meant not a single jet has been delivered to IAF.

GE’s F404 Engine delivery now seems to be stable

1st to 2nd delivery: 111 days

2nd to 3rd delivery: 58 days

3rd to 4th delivery: 19 days

HAL has confirmed that it is on track to meet delivery targets for this financial year. The firm expects that engine supplies will stabilise in the next financial year to support full-scale production. By 2026–27, the production target is projected to reach 30 aircraft per year with collaboration from both public and private industry partners.

1. India must ensure that future GE-F404 engines are delivered on or before time .
2. The Atma-Nirbharta in jet engine should be achieved ASAP.
