Chennai: Larsen & Toubro Shipbuilding (L&T Shipbuilding) has reinforced its ties with the U.S. Navy by welcoming the hospital ship, USNS Charles Drew, for Mid-Term Availability (MTA) repairs.

This development follows successful Voyage Repair Availabilities (VRAs) completed on other U.S. Navy vessels, including USNS Matthew Perry and USNS Salvor, solidifying L&T Shipbuilding's position as a reliable partner.

The ongoing MTA repairs are being conducted under the framework of the Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA), signed in 2023. This agreement facilitates long-term collaboration and ensures efficient maintenance and repair services for the U.S. Navy fleet.

L&T Shipbuilding's advanced facilities and expertise in shipbuilding and repair have made it a preferred choice for the U.S. Navy. The successful completion of these repair projects not only enhances the industrial collaboration but also symbolizes the deepening partnership between the two nations.

The visit of USNS Charles Drew underscores L&T Shipbuilding's ability to provide high-quality and timely repairs. As the U.S. Navy continues to entrust L&T Shipbuilding with its maintenance and repair requirements, the partnership is expected to flourish further in the future.

We may well be getting the USNS Big Horn for repairs once the Americans can get her refloated if she is found to be too badly damaged to repair in Oman itself.
