Pinaka and HIMARS Showcase Firepower Together at Yudh Abhyas 2024

The ongoing joint military exercise, Yudh Abhyas 2024, is not just a platform for strategic collaboration but also a showcase of cutting-edge military technology.

A highlight of this exercise has been the demonstration of the US Army's M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) alongside India's indigenous Pinaka Multiple Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL).

The HIMARS, a highly mobile missile launcher mounted on a five-tonne truck, has garnered attention for its ability to fire six guided missiles simultaneously, each capable of hitting targets with pinpoint accuracy. Its versatility extends further with the capability to launch a single Army Tactical Missile System missile, boosting its range to an impressive 300 kilometers.

Meanwhile, India's Pinaka MBRL has proven its mettle as a formidable weapon system. Developed indigenously, it boasts a high rate of fire and precision targeting capabilities. Although its current maximum range is 90 kilometers, the Pinaka has been a cornerstone of the Indian Army's artillery arsenal.

The US has expressed its willingness to offer the HIMARS to India, a move that could significantly bolster India's artillery arsenal. The HIMARS' extended range and precision strike capabilities would offer a strategic advantage to the Indian military, enhancing its deterrence and response capabilities.

Bro HIMARS is just a rocket carrier. This thing allows to carry high diameter missiles to be loaded in it that allows to fire upto 300km. But we kept out pinaka to be MRLS only and ours is more cost effective. We also develop smart long range guided rockets with upto 120 or even 150km. I think that's enough. We can buy a few HIMARS. But our main focus should be Pinaka and bumping its range to 150km. HIMARS can be used for selected long range strikes. We can use it to take down airstrips in Tibet. May be take down few "strategic depth" targets of Pakistan, but most of the targets would fall in 50-100km range.

India doesn’t need to and we shouldn’t buy the HIMARS system at all. We can’t rely on foreign expensive imports as we need to become more self reliant. Currently we are increasing the range of our Pinaka rockets up to a range of 300km which is very important that we develop as soon as possible.
