In a significant advancement for India's defence capabilities, Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) has unveiled a new Truck-Mounted Howitzer (TMH), leveraging their renowned Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS). This innovative artillery system enters the arena to compete directly with the Kalyani Group's MGS, both built upon the foundation of the ATAGS gun.

The Tata TMH stands out due to its utilization of the Tata LPTA 3945 / 3138 8×8 Truck platform, ensuring remarkable mobility and adaptability. While the MGS also incorporates the ATAGS gun, Tata's TMH distinguishes itself with its unique design features.

A defining feature of the TMH is its inherent indirect fire flexibility, allowing it to fulfill both traditional and howitzer roles. Its tactical and road strategic mobility enhance its efficacy across diverse operational scenarios. With an impressive 600 km range without refueling and a top speed of 85 km/hr, the TMH sets a new standard for battlefield mobility.

The TMH's ordnance has been meticulously optimized for the 52 calibre 155mm ballistic system. It employs extended range projectiles, guaranteeing superior range and target effectiveness compared to existing systems. As the product is developed in India, our patriotic Import Army will conduct trials for the next 30 years or so. In that 30 years, they can get to import at least 4-5 Israeli or Amriki replacement platforms.

TATA is a private company, and it already has expertise in Howitzers so it can deliver.

IA has arounf 80,000 AL Stallion trucks (empty weight 7.8MT), of which they can easily spare a thousand. So i/o tin can Light Tanks & k9 SPH costing Rs 45-50 crore apiece, why doesn't our army order 1000 nos of Bharat Forge's MArG-ER 155mmx52cal all steel gun weighing 6.8MT, mount it on these trucks? For the cost of one light tank & k9 the Army can have 3-4 truck mounted arty guns.

Very sensible & practical suggestion, but pls accommodate IA's "Rigorous Testing" for indegenious platforms which may go on for 4-5 yrs.. covering all seasons, all terrains, moon, ocean..

Why not ask for 2 S75 checkmate from Russia on trial basis or even pay for it than IAF can do the required trials & then can ask for changes which can help indicating this aircraft faster & even if we are not satisfied it will help us with absorbing those techniques

No truck can withstand mines. Usually they would clear the field with minesweepers before any vehicles pass through.

It’s good that more private companies develop their own mounted guns as it will increase competition and drive down costs.

In this case TATA holds an advantage because it also manufactures its own trucks so they can provide a complete package of the gun and vehicle. Kalyani doesn’t have that advantage even though they have very good guns but if they can make a deal with a company to buy cheaper vehicles then they could compete against TATA on the price.

Only with indian system these trials take forever, Stryker passed trials in few months while WhAp, kestrel, ATAGS, Arjun are being tested for years and years without orders

Mounted guns can keep the enemy troops from reinforcing their positions or positioning their Towed Artillery guns.
