Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) News and Discussion

Nah we miss chances of getting the knowledge of the basics from FGFA because we walk out early... Those knowledge can be used for our own FGFA AMCA then we will kiss goodbye to Russia while they are fighting with Ukraine or they can transfer some of their manufacturing here in India while they having couple argument with Ukraine 😹

AMCA Plans to Develop Five Prototypes, Targets 2028 Flight

India's pursuit of a homegrown fifth-generation fighter jet has taken a significant leap forward with the announcement of five prototypes for its Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program.

The ambitious goal is to see the first AMCA take flight by the end of 2028, according to Krishna Rajendra, Project Director at the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA).

The development of five initial prototypes signals a major commitment to comprehensive testing and refinement before the AMCA enters full production. These prototypes will be rigorously evaluated across crucial areas, including flight characteristics, avionics systems, stealth capabilities, and overall combat performance.

"The creation of five prototypes underscores the importance placed on thorough testing and refinement," stated a defence analyst. "This data-driven approach will optimize the AMCA's design, guaranteeing it becomes a true force multiplier for the Indian Air Force."

The successful achievement of a 2028 maiden flight depends on a focused four-and-a-half-year development cycle spearheaded by the ADA in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Conclusion

The AMCA program represents a monumental step in India's drive for self-reliance in advanced defence technologies. With five prototypes set to undergo meticulous evaluation, the nation is poised to enter the ranks of countries with a domestically produced fifth-generation fighter jet - a testament to its growing aerospace prowess.

Beyond AMCA: Why India Needs a 6th Generation Fighter Strategy Now

India's long-awaited Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program finally received CCS clearance, marking a momentous step towards self-reliance in 5th generation fighter jet production.

However, in a rapidly evolving global aerospace landscape, India must already be looking ahead to secure a position in the 6th-generation fighter race.

The 16-year wait for the AMCA's funding approval underscores the lengthy development timelines involved. India cannot afford a similar delay in developing its indigenous 6th-generation fighter jet.

With several major powers already outlining their plans for 6th-generation fighters likely to enter production and testing in the mid-2030s, India must start now to avoid lagging behind the technological curve.

While the AMCA incorporates substantial technological leaps, waiting to initiate 6th-generation research risks India falling behind in critical areas:
  • Super-Stealth: 6th-generation fighters will redefine stealth, not just minimizing radar cross-sections, but also drastically reducing infrared and acoustic signatures to counter advanced sensor technology.
  • Advanced Propulsion: Variable cycle engines will optimize performance, balancing fuel economy during cruise with intense power for supersonic flight.
  • Networked Warfare: Seamless integration into a network-centric warfare system is key. Real-time data-sharing between aircraft, drones, and ground forces will create unprecedented situational awareness and tactical dominance.
Importantly, the AMCA program offers a potential launchpad for 6th-generation capabilities. The AMCA team's stated commitment to developing it as a "5.5 Gen" fighter, hints that 6th-generation technologies may be implemented during production in the mid-2030s.

Lessons learned in avionics, materials, and systems integration within the AMCA program will prove invaluable for future development. Prioritizing technologies like artificial intelligence and hypersonic weapons during AMCA development will accelerate India's progression into the next generation of combat aircraft.

The path towards a self-developed 6th-generation fighter will be a challenging one. Substantial financial investment is unavoidable, and fostering a robust partnership between the public and private aerospace sectors is vital. Smart collaborations with international partners can provide access to complementary expertise.

Some may consider 6th-generation fighter development to be premature while the AMCA project is still in its active phase. However, ensuring India maintains its position at the forefront of combat technology demands proactive action.

By using the AMCA program as a springboard, and cultivating a thriving domestic aerospace ecosystem, India can stake its claim on the strategic air superiority battlespace of the future.

India made the right decision by going solo because Russia was not giving India any full access to the critical technology they said they would and wouldn't transfer or allow a large amount of the technology to us.

India can definitely develop the technology and capabilities and this will allow us to modernise and learn a lot by developing the AMCA.
Not Russia. No one will give critical tech. Have to develop own. No fake jvs.

There is more to a jet than just an engine. The engine is a crucial piece of technology that very few countries have mastered it and that's after spending billions on developing it with no guarantee of success. Kaveri engine is making progress as it will be used for the stealth UCAV Ghatak and we are developing the Kaveri marine engine as well which is showing good progress and it can be used for small to medium ship engines.
Yes Kaveri growing. One day it will huge success.

Solo🤔🧐
Among you said is Tejas mk1a is the only thing that are in real world the rest are still in drawing board and still decades behind in delululandia 😹
What world are you living?
There is no way to pay for any armaments from Russia due to strict CAATSA sanctions.

India will have that vision after 2040 if AMCA is ready by then, but before that India needs vision on making Tejas MK1A, MK2 and TEDBF.

Dear lord! about time we stop this madness. We are struggling to produce LCA MK-2, a patently 4-4.5 generation fighter, and we are having wild fantasy for developing 6 generation fighter, when we cant even produce Tejas MK-2 on time. If we continue this way, we will become the laughingstock of the world and will be ridiculed for this madness.

AMCA MK1 is 5.5 Gen & AMCA MK2 may have some upgraded 6th Gen Tech .

I would be almighty happy if India can manage to get its Tejas Mk2 get a prototype by at least 2026 and start testing them.
India badly needs them to replace whatever left of Mig-21s, Jaguars, Mirage-2000UPGs, Mig-29UPGs, etc

AMCA first prototype in 2028 is far away to even say anything about it.

We can establish a unified UPI + MIR with Russia and to compensate some payment we can export our IT expert knowledge to them.... If there's a hole, there's always a way😹😹😹...

Your just a negative thoughts person bruh....

No worries with HAL at the helm of the prototype it will be anywhere after 2030. Somewhere in 2028 there will be a pressler that due to various reasons (in fact excuses, one might even be sky falling down😂) there will be delay possibly to 2029, then again in 2029..... I will praise them if they complete by 2028.😁

Turkey is flying KAAN... meanwhile HAL has ambitious target of first flight by 2028

Make it after 2045, the MK2 itself is unlikely to enter production anytime before 2033, and you expect them to suddenly succeed in producing AMCA, which has drastically expanded technology scope?

Another long drawn project, that would future proof income for HAL just like LCA and AMCA. Deadlines after deadlines but still not combat ready.

HAL is not at helm till prod versions are readied. Read the fine print carefully

Turkey is flying a glorified RC model - a country which had never developed a 4 gen fighter itself in its lifetime will develop a 5th gen in 5 years - nice dreams. Turkey is just copying the same CCP route --- only sound & no substance in attempt to capture the potential mullah market for 5th gen fighters. Erdogan has to show something to remain relevant. The TB2's fate in Russia showed only how much Turkish engineering can do
