In a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in defence technology, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has successfully upgraded the surveillance radar at Visakhapatnam Airport.
This state-of-the-art radar, designed and manufactured in India, was installed on Dolphin Hill by the Indian Navy's INS Dega. The new system replaces an older model and promises to enhance air traffic management and ensure continuous surveillance of the airspace.
This indigenous radar boasts advanced features that provide superior performance and reliability compared to its predecessor. It will enable more precise tracking of aircraft, improving both safety and efficiency in air traffic operations. This upgrade contributes significantly to the modernization of Visakhapatnam Airport, a key coastal hub for India.
BEL's achievement in developing and deploying this radar system underscores India's growing capabilities in defence electronics. This technological advancement not only strengthens national security but also reduces reliance on imported technology, boosting the domestic manufacturing sector. The project aligns with India's "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" mission, which emphasizes self-sufficiency and promotes indigenous technology development.
The installation also marks an important achievement for INS Dega, the naval air station responsible for overseeing operations at Visakhapatnam Airport. The upgraded radar will improve real-time tracking and coordination of aircraft, ensuring safer skies over the Visakhapatnam coastline.
