Toronto, Canada - A wave of vandalism and attacks targeting Hindu temples across Canada has sparked outrage and fear within the Hindu Canadian community. In response, many are calling for a boycott of businesses perceived to be affiliated with Khalistani supporters, whom they believe are responsible for the escalating tensions.

Recent incidents, including an attack on a prominent Hindu temple, have fueled this movement. Many Hindu Canadians feel they are being unfairly targeted due to their opposition to the Khalistani separatist movement, which seeks to establish an independent Sikh state in South Asia.

"They want our money but then send goons to attack our temples," a Hindu Canadian originally from Goa said, advocating for targeted boycotts. "It's time to unite," added another individual of Caribbean-Hindu descent. "Today they came for our temples; tomorrow they will come for our homes."

The attacks have also led to criticism of temple trustees for perceived inaction. Many believe stronger preventative measures and a clearer stance against Khalistani extremism could have mitigated these incidents.

Adding to the tension, some pro-Khalistan groups have reportedly called for Hindu Canadians to "go back to India." This rhetoric has further alienated Hindu Canadians, who view themselves as loyal and contributing members of Canadian society.

"They say we are not loyal to Canada, but these Khalistani supporters themselves are not loyal to Canada—they desire a new homeland 8,000 kilometers away," said a Hindu Canadian originally from Mumbai.

In response to these challenges, Hindu Canadians are advocating for unity and organized action. Proposals include establishing a coalition of community leaders to create a safety network for temples, residences, and businesses.

This situation highlights the growing friction between some segments of the Sikh and Hindu communities in Canada. While many Sikh Canadians also condemn the temple attacks, the increasingly vocal pro-Khalistan movement has created a complex and challenging environment.
