Yerevan, Armenia – The Armenian Army has successfully concluded trials of the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) 155mm/52 calibre towed guns, procured from India in 2023. This positive outcome paves the way for a significant boost to Armenia's defence capabilities with a larger order of 84 more ATAGS guns.
The initial batch of six ATAGS guns underwent rigorous testing in various locations across Armenia. These trials were crucial to assess the guns' performance in diverse operational environments and under prolonged use in Armenian conditions. The guns were specifically modified to meet the Armenian Army's requirements, including programming the Trajectory Computation Module (TCM) in the Armenian language.
Sources within the Armenian Army confirmed that the ATAGS guns successfully cleared all operational tests. This success is a testament to the advanced technology and adaptability of the ATAGS, developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Tata Advanced Systems, and Kalyani Strategic Systems.
This development marks a significant step in the growing defence cooperation between India and Armenia. Armenia has been actively procuring a range of Indian defence equipment, including the Akash air defence system, Swathi counter-battery radars, and Pinaka multiple-barrel rocket launchers, to bolster its defence capabilities against neighboring Azerbaijan.
The ATAGS boasts an impressive firing range of 48 kilometers (30 miles) and a high rate of fire in various modes. Its advanced features, including an all-electric drive for enhanced reliability, position it as a top contender in the global artillery market.
The successful trials in Armenia are expected to further solidify the ATAGS's reputation and potentially attract interest from other countries seeking to modernize their artillery forces. This also underscores India's growing prowess in the global defence industry, with indigenous systems like the ATAGS gaining international recognition.
