Following a China summit with PM Modi, President Putin to visit India in December for a significant bilateral meeting

Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to India in December, the Kremlin said Friday (August 29, 2025), as ties between the countries grow closer and after the United States imposed tariffs on New Delhi over its purchases of Russian oil.

Mr. Putin will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a regional summit in China on Monday (September 1, 2025).

U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on Indian goods as punishment for New Delhi’s massive purchases of Russian oil, part of a campaign to pressure Moscow into ending its offensive in Ukraine.

Energy incomes are a key source of revenue for Moscow’s state budget.

Russia is also one of India’s top arms suppliers, and the warm ties between the two countries date back to the Soviet era.

Ukraine’s Western allies have sought to cut Russia’s export earnings since Moscow launched its military assault in February 2022.But Russia has been able to redirect energy sales away from Europe to countries including India and China, ensuring the multi-billion-dollar flow of funds has continued.

India has argued it imported oil “from Russia because traditional supplies were diverted to Europe after the outbreak of the conflict”.

Mr. Putin has significantly curtailed his foreign travel amid the offensive on Ukraine, for which he was slapped with an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant.

India is not a party to the ICC and therefore not obligated to detain Mr. Putin.

Had Ukraine not funded by US and EU that would have been a cake walk for Russia. Actually the war is of US and EU who is notorously playing a very idiotic role in the war. Above all Ukraine is getting destructed because of foolish aspirations of Zelenskyy, to win againt mighty Russia is next to impossible its like digging own grave which Zelenskyy is aptly digging.

Lot of positives on the table to be anticipated during Putin's India visit. Lot of economical, space and defense deals are awaited in the form of JV's. Probably most awaited will be the deals for SU57, S500 and Voronez radar (mainly considering mission Sudarshan announcement) under Make in India initative. Lot is expected between India Russia summit, in the same manner as that of the current Japan visit which has yielded lots of affermative MoU's. Let us await as time will unwrap everything.​

NATO soldiers never showed up for war. Something tells me that a direct military clash with the US army would be very painful for the Russians.

I doubt as US does not have the war time experience which the Russians have after fighting for almost 3years now. Also we have seen what has turned out in Afghan clash they had to literally run away from the positions against the raw Taliban agressors. Other major reason is US if at boots on ground will have to fight in the tarrain which is very well known to Russians and not to US.
And above all Trump the trader will never fight but will opt for best deals with everyone - EU, Russia, Ukraine and also with Nobel comitee for the Nobel.

But the losses in Afghanistan are far from in favor of the Taliban. The war in Afghanistan was generally senseless from the start, but apparently the generals wanted to make money.
The war with Ukraine has shown the shortcomings of the Russian army, some of which have not yet been corrected. Russia is still lagging behind in the level of development of electronics and some other areas, which is why it suffers.
