MoD's Latest 15 Year Technology & Capability Roadmap for the Armed Forces through 2040

In a major strategic development, the defence ministry yesterday released a major modernization & capabilities upgrade plan, termed as 'The Technology Vision and Capability Roadmap’ for the Indian armed forces through 2040, in a document released yesterday and reported by most key media outlets within & outside India.

Coming in the wake of Operation Sindoor months ago and China's VE Day parade, held just a couple of days ago, It focuses on the twin core objectives & linchpins of integration of cutting edge indigenous technologies in defence systems and indigenous development & sourcing of these technologies, backed by public-private partnership as it's underlying credo and bedrock.

Key highlights & tenets of the roadmap and capability upgrade plan include:-
  1. Development of a third Aircraft Carrier for the Indian Navy which likely will be nuclear powered.
  2. The development of new electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS) for the aircraft carrier, like the U.S. Navy, for future to replace existing steam catapult launch systems
  3. Development of 10 nuclear propulsion systems for carrier and other warships.
  4. 10 new destroyers, corvettes, landing platforms, helicopters & torpedos to be produced & procured for the Navy.
  5. Procurement of domestically produced fighter jets for the Navy's existing Aircraft Carriers, including, the TEDBF and light jets built by HAL.
  6. Major focus on drones in the wake of their proven effectiveness, as almost gamechanger, as demonstrated in Operation Sindoor and in Ukraine.
  7. 590 hypersonic missiles for the Armed forces and directed energy systems.
  8. Procurement of 1800 tanks for the Army to replace existing T-72s besides 400 light tanks and 600,000 artillery rounds for the Army, in addition, to 50,000 Anti Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs) & loitering munitions.
  9. 20 stratospheric airships, 350 multi-mission drones, stealth UCAVs, high-power laser systems, and directed-energy weapons to be procured for the Indian Air Force.
  10. India hopes to have 62 Rafale jets in service by 2030, including the 26 marine variants ordered for the Indian Navy's 2 aircraft carriers.
  11. The MOD has allocated ₹6.81 trillion/$77 billion towards defense this fiscal year.
If executed precisely & effectively as planned, and like our armed forces with a laser focus, the plan would be a gamechanger for India and its defence industrial base for the long haul for sure...

Whom we will fight ,is to be seen as more powerful wepaons means , the enemies will be quiet so this is right investment.
