JSW Sarbloh Motors has formed a JV with Arizona-based Tomcar for the local production of the TX range of ATVs in India

In a major development for India's industrial and defence manufacturing sector, JSW Sarbloh Motors, the defence-focused arm of the JSW Group, has entered into a strategic joint venture with Tomcar USA.

The partnership, announced on Thursday, will establish local production of Tomcar's combat-proven TX series of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) in India, directly supporting the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative.

The collaboration will see the versatile TX range of ATVs being manufactured at JSW's facility in Chandigarh. The first Indian-made units are projected to be completed and ready for deployment by early 2026.

This venture aims to supply these high-performance vehicles to the Indian Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and various state police departments, in addition to serving commercial industrial clients.

The Tomcar TX is a rugged and highly adaptable vehicle engineered for extreme conditions. It is available in three modular variants (TX3, TX4, and TX5) that can be configured for carrying two to five personnel or as a pickup with a significant payload capacity of up to 1,200 kg.

Built on a fully welded steel chassis with a protective roll cage and an aircraft-grade aluminium skid plate, its four-wheel independent suspension provides exceptional stability over difficult ground.

Two powertrain options will be available for the Indian market. The first is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 161 bhp, while the second is an all-electric version powered by a three-phase AC motor, offering a travel range of up to 161 km on a single charge.

The vehicle's tactical capabilities are enhanced by features such as on-the-fly four-wheel drive, front and rear differential locks, and the ability to be fitted with armour kits and advanced communication systems.

These ATVs are already in use globally for a wide range of applications, including border security, counter-insurgency operations, and emergency response.

The Indian Army currently utilises similar vehicles for logistics and troop movement in high-altitude areas like the Himalayas and in desert regions.

The introduction of the locally-produced TX series is expected to provide a significant boost to mobility and operational efficiency in India's diverse and challenging terrains.

Under the terms of the joint venture, JSW Sarbloh Motors will manage the manufacturing, assembly, and long-term service support for the vehicles. A key focus will be on indigenising components to ensure cost-effectiveness and align with the 'Make in India' programme.

According to the company, field trials and demonstrations for various defence and paramilitary agencies are scheduled to take place in the coming months.

Leadership from both companies have expressed strong optimism about the partnership.

Parth Jindal of the JSW Group stated, “This joint venture marks a significant milestone in our commitment to enhance India’s defence capabilities.

Ram Zarchi, Founder of Tomcar USA, added that the collaboration will effectively combine "Tomcar’s decades of mission-grade engineering with JSW’s advanced manufacturing expertise" to serve the Indian Armed Forces.

The vehicle's potential applications in commercial sectors such as mining, agriculture, and disaster relief were also highlighted, underscoring its broad utility beyond defence.

ATVs are needed in today's, fast and mobile ground war situations, where drones hunt humans .
